Occasion (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Gregson, Edward

Occasion was published especially for the National Youth Brass Band Championship of Great Britain, held at the Royal Albert Hall, London, on 4th October, 1986.Occasion for Brass Band is in four movements: Fanfare, Festivities, Elegy and Dance. The opening Fanfare was originally written as a Wedding Fanfare for Paul and Hazel Patterson in 1981, while the Elegy and Dance were commissioned as a test-piece for the first Westsound/Ayrshire Invitation Contest in 1982 for the leading bands in Scotland. Festivities was therefore written last, to complete the work and give it its essentially 'festive' character. Except for the Elegy, which is contemplative, the music throughout is extrovert and joyful. The opeing Fanfare may be performed separately - of the Fanfare may be ledt out entirely, making the work a three movement Suite.Duration: 11 minutes

XMAZZ! - Lennox Rhodes - Len Jenkins

You have to admit it, but standing there in the cold outside a supermarket at Christmas, playing to raise funds for your band or local charity, you could sometimes do with something to liven things up. Well here's a piece to get feet tapping (but please don't do that when playing on stage - leave that to the audience!). Comprising a medley of well-known and loved carols and festive pieces, the pace will keep you warm and make a welcome break from traditional carol tempos without losing the Christmas spirit. Hic! For practical reasons, XMAZZ! can easily be split into two parts with a mid-point where you can stop (or start) according to choice or demands of the occasion. Graham

Sinfonietta No. 4 - Etienne Crausaz

This work was composed for the occasion of the 28. Fete Cantonale des Musiques Vaudoises (28th Music Festival of the Canton Vaud), taking place in the Valley of Joux in June 2018. The music begins with a very simple fanfare consisting of five ascending legato notes which constitute the fundamental framework of the piece. This contrasts with the more cantabile sounding theme we hear after. The following Allegro section uses the sequence in a contrapuntal style reminding us of the Renaissance period, but with more modern day harmonies. Two solo cadenzas played by cornet and euphonium initiate the middle section, in which a theme also based on the sequence builds up towards the climax of the piece. The sequence in the last section is played in time but gives the feeling of a "one to the bar" beat. Shortly before the festive finale, the music heard in the middle part resumes.
