Among the solos contained in this album are some of the 'heart songs' of The Salvation Army, some traditional melodies as well as four larger works. There are solos to challenge the younger player as well as some to test the most advanced soloist.These solos, many of which were only available with brass and accompaniment, have now been arranged with pianoforte accompaniment and come complete with an 'accompaniment CD'. Richard Phillips is the pianist. There is music suitable for all occasions, ranging from the Sunday morning worship meeting to the concert platform. Most importantly, the album contains solos that will appeal to the listener as well as the performer. Summit is a powerful descriptive work, lifting from broad beginnings to an exciting climax. It was written for the Hyde Street Youth Band in Melbourne's west, for the 2023 Australian National Band Championships. The piece was designed to give the band a chance to display their credentials. The Nutcracker, for many, has become a must-see event every Christmas, often the principle of Christmas traditions that has been passed down for generations. The original ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893), which premiered in 1892 was not received with the critical acclaim that befitted such as masterpiece, so he wrote two suites based on the music, and the popularity of the ballet soared, although Tchaikovsky would regrettably not live to witness the success. This arrangement loosely interprets five of the most well-known themes from the ballet in a quasi-jazz setting: March, Waltz of the flowers, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Dance of the Mirlitons and Trepak. In this case, a cross between live euphonium/performer and recorded sounds of a euphonium/performer. The emphasis lies on various forms of breathing and other sounds the euphonium can produce.

Along with the Hallelujah Chorus, the bass aria (and mini trumpet concerto) The Trumpet Shall Sound is one of the most recognisable movements from Handel's Messiah, which was composed in 1741 and received it's premiere in Dublin a year later. Written in three parts, the The Trumpet Shall Sound appears in the middle of the third and final part.The aria is rarely performed 'live' with the full repeat, as it is a particularly taxing part for the trumpet player. £44.95Whitsun Wakes (Score Only)
Whitsun Wakes was commissioned by the BBC and first performed by Black Dyke Band, conducted by James Watson, in Manchester's Bridgewater Hall on 26th May, 1997 as part of the BBC's 'Music Live' Festival. It was subsequently selected as a test piece for the British Open Championship which was scheduled to be held on 6th September 1997 at Birmingham's Symphony Hall. Unfortunately this was the day of the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales and so the British Open was postponed until 17th January, 1998. However the greatest irony is the fact that although this piece takes its inspiration from the Manchester area it was destined to be played at the first British Open Championship to take place outside Manchester.

This is a beautiful hymn setting arranged for brass band by Steve Robson, inspired by the words of Charles Oakley (1832-1865), set to the melody of Little Cornard by Martin Shaw (1875-1958).Steve writes: The words of the opening line of the Hymn have added significance for me, in that I am fortunate to live high amongst England's most northerly hills, "The North Pennines".A strikingly beautiful melody which has been artfully scored by Steve to create waves of emotion throughout.
