A brilliant concert-march in the best British martial tradition. Both the title and composition are based on the well-known hymn 'Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God'. Jerry B. Land given to God (Tuku Fonua ki Langi) is a landmark major test-piece for brass band celebrating Tongan faith, history, and cultural identity. Commissioned by Sione Malekamu Manu Jr for the Tonga Secondary School Music Festival, Land given to God marks a monumental achievement in Pacific music literature as the first major brass band test-piece written specifically for the Kingdom of Tonga. Commemorating two centuries of Christianity, this compelling four-movement work traces Tonga's journey from ancient traditions to its historic 1839 dedication to divine protection. The piece draws its principal thematic material from the beloved Tongan hymn Oku 'iai ha ki'i fonua 'oku tu'u 'i 'oseni. The work is divided into four through-composed movements: I. Koe Lotu Mu'a (The Old Religion): Grounded and ritualistic, this movement paints the ancient spiritual order of pre-Christian Tonga - a nation anchored in sacred ancestral tradition on the threshold of change. II. Koe Lotu Fo'ou (The New Religion): Captures a nation in transition, depicting the arrival of Wesleyan missionaries, the conversion of Taufa'ahau (King Siaosi Tupou I), and the powerful 1834 spiritual revival (To 'a e 'Ofa). III. Koe Sivi Fakaosi (The Final Test): A dramatic musical confrontation between doubt and conviction. It recounts the story of Christian teacher Pita Vi being cast into shark-infested waters as a test of faith, surviving unharmed to seal the King's devotion. IV. Koe Tuku Fonua ki Langi (Land Given to God): A solemn, declarative finale recounting the historic 1839 act at Pouono, where King Siaosi Tupou I offered the land and people of Tonga to the divine protection of Heaven. It was written for the 100th anniversary of Camp Gifford in Loon Lake, Washington, therefore included are well-known songs with references to water as the camp is located on the shores of Deer Lake.551: Going Home (Alan Williams)Richard Jukes' song I'm a soldier bound for Glory (S.A.S.B. 856) displays the confidence of someone with a steadfast faith who is certain that by loving and serving their God they will be accepted into his Kingdom. This assurance results in a joyful song of testimony. Whilst not a direct setting of the five verses, the dance-like rhythm of this cha-cha should reflect the positive and encouraging nature of the lyrics and be full of joy and spirit.552: Whosoever will may come (Noel Jones)This is a two-verse arrangement of the song Whosoever will may come (S.A.S.B. 405), with words written by William John McAlonan and music composed by Alfred Braine. This song is included in the Invitation and Challenge section of the song book. The arrangement should be played in a spirited style.553: March - Sing a praise of celebration (Marcus Venables)This music was written at the request of the Singapore Central Corps Band, who asked that the work be based on two specific meaningful melodies. The first is To the Glory and Praise of God by Robert Redhead, a tune rooted in corporate worship and joyful proclamation, calling God's people to lift their voices in thanksgiving. The other is Home, a beloved Singaporean song that speaks of belonging.

2246: Christmas Prelude - David's City (Noel Jones)In 2 Samuel 5, we read of David's anointing as King of Israel at the age of thirty, a reign that lasted for forty years. Bethlehem was known as 'David's city' because he was born there and worked as a shepherd on the nearby hills. Verses 1, 2 and 5 of Once in Royal David's City (C.C. 68) are featured in this Christmas Prelude. There are also brief references to the carols O come, all ye faithful and O little town of Bethlehem between verses.2247: Cornet and Euphonium Duet - This Kingdom (Stephen Bulla)Geoff Bullock's song, This Kingdom, has been made well known by the American gospel singer Ron Kenoly. Stephen Bulla wrote this duet for a Brass Spectacular concert held in Basel, Switzerland, in May 2019.2248: Wonder (Stephen Gibson)When we stop to consider the mystery of God's love for each one of us, its enormity can only cause us to wonder. The opening bars of this music create an atmosphere, using a rolling accompaniment underneath sustained, music and chromatic Cornets, setting the style for the entire piece. Occasional references to Albert E. Webber's chorus Can you wonder? are heard throughout.2249: O to love thee! (Michael Davis)This piece takes its title from the first verse of Francis Bottome's words, Precious Jesus, O to love thee! The introduction establishes the baroque form of a prelude which leads into the tune Glory to the lamb (T.B. 327). Following a brief interlude, the melody is passed through several sections of the band, with delicate countermelodies in the Flugel and Horns. The majestic ending eventually comes to rest on the final tonic chord.
