The contemporary setting is simple in design and should prove to be popular amongst many who feature this journal.Suite – Like a melody (Steve Forman)Major Stephen Foreman has written a short suite which will bring an easy yet attractive addition to most band's repertoire. I am praying (Jared Proellocks)A contemporary setting of the much loved chorus 'I am praying blessed Saviour' written by a young Salvationist from the Australian Southern Territory.

Fugatango
Composer and Internationally reknown jazz trumpeter Steve Waterman writes… “When Roger Argente approached me to write a composition for his Spanish flavoured brass project he made the suggestion that a Tango, although more Argentinian than Spanish, would fit in well with the overall concept. I have always been a very big fan of the music of Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla and particularly the way that the Tango could be combined with jazz. A favourite recording of mine is of Piazzolla himself performing (on the bandoneon) with the jazz saxophonist Gerry Mulligan. As the composing progressed, a fugato also emerged hence the title Fugatango." Originally “Fugatango” featured a french horn improvised introduction section. This new brass band version allows the flugelhorn to enjoy the moment with a wonderful 8 bar solo section, now notated. Later in the work the solo trombone is given a solo section.Duration: 5:30 minutes.Percussion: 2 players playing drum kit and castanets. Grade 2: Moderately Easy 2nd and 3rd Section Bands

The Puffing Devil - Christopher Bond
For Children's Choir and Brass BandThe Puffing Devil (2013) was commissioned by Camborne Trevithick Day Committee on the occasion of Camborne’s 30th Trevithick Day celebration. The premiere performance of the work, written for brass band and children’s choir, saw a massed performance by six brass bands and children from nine local schools. With the intention of being an educational work as well as a musical work, The Puffing Devil reflects the story of Richard Trevithick both in the lyrics and the musical material. A mysterious opening sees running semiquavers in the euphoniums as the flugel horn introduces the work with a solo, before the entry of the horns playing rhythmic quavers. The addition of the voices at the outset is for effect – working with the instruments to create the sound of a steam engine gathering pace simply to the words ‘Trevithick’. Once a steady tempo is reached, themes are introduced and sung by the choir, where the vocal writing is a very simple singular-melody; easy for any primary school aged children to learn. An ending of grandeur in a majestic nature is presented, to create a big finish to a feel-good educational work.
