Cristo Redentor' (Christ the Redeemer) is the Portuguese name of the unmistakable statue that overlooks every part of the vibrant Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. The composer was inspired to bring these images to music, creating various atmospheres to portray the diverse scenery. The title of this work is based on the painting of the same name by the English painter William Turner. The ambiguity and suggestive power of this seascape offers great musical possibilities. The first part of the work represents the sunrise, and depicts scenes from Greek mythology in which two sea monsters from Odyssey play their part. In Charybdis, rugged high and low sound fields contrast with a tuneful theme, veined with restlessly pulsing lines. The subsequent fragmentary movement, Sirens, is characterized by mysterious sounds and intertwined arabesques, that are increasingly overshadowed by menacing chords. Concluding the final movement is another famous musical monster: a Tarantella. Sunrise with Sea Monsters was commissioned by the Brassband Burgermusik Luzern and was premiered at the 2023 Swiss Brass Band Championships, conducted by Michael Bach.

La muerte del angel was composed by Astor Piazzolla as incidental music for the 1962 play Tango del angel by Alberto Rodriguez Munoz.In the play an angel heals the spirits of the residents of a shabby Buenos Aires neighborhood, but is ultimately killed in a knife fight.This is one of the distinctive pieces with which Piazzolla shook the conservative world of tango. With it's harsh dissonances, mood swings and high energy level, it was in sharp contrast to the traditional tangoes.La muerte del angel was frequently played by Piazzolla in concerts, and he recorded it on at least fourteen different occasions.This arrangement was written to Eikanger-Bjorsvik Musikklag for their performance at Siddis Brass 2007.-Svein H. This is an arrangement which has to be performed a bit humorous in the spirit of the original.It starts with a kazoo-like opening, played on the mouthpieces. At C, baritones and euphoniums should stand up. Maybe the musicians can play it by heart?Two bars before D, the tempo increase. On E, the cornet players should stand (and play by heart)?New, even higher tempo two bars before F. The trombonists should stand up in bar 103 to prepare for a terrific tempo. But G will be played like a laidback reggae-version. Flugelhorn and horns can stand up simultaneous with the glissando in bar 120.The tempo at H should be high and fresh and with several sections standing. In bar 158 should almost all players sit. At bar 160 everyone should stand up.In bar 162, all players should turn to the audience during the crescendo.

This three-movement work by the Swiss composer Etienne Crausaz reflects three true stories and fascinating legends from the Middle Ages. The first movement tells the dramatic story of the 'witch' Catherine 'Catillon' Repond (1662 1731). She was the last woman ever to be executed for sorcery. In the second movement, the famous court jester Girard Chalamala occupies centre stage. This jester, the last one at the castle of Count Greyerz, could make everyone laugh. The third movement tells the story of Count Michael. He went down in history as a spendthrift bon-vivant. His burden of debt became so high that he did a moonlight flit and never came back!
