It Was A Very Good Year - Ervin Drake - Gavin Somerset

Composed by Ervin Drake, this bestselling hit for Frank Sinatra (and later, Robbie Williams) tells of the performer’s life as they reflect upon their past, aged 17 to being ‘In the autumn of their years’. Now, arranged for the first time for brass band, using the original orchestration from the Frank Sinatra version, this stunning work is available for bands to perform with either a single soloist, or for added entertainment value, you can spread the years across various (aging?!) members of the band as several soloist parts are provided (both in Bb and Eb). This piece is a must have for bands looking to add something different to any concert or contest programme. *Also works with vocalist.

    Good King Wenceslas

Duration: 4:30 Minutes Percussion: 3 PlayersTimpani, Clash Cymbals, Tambourine, Tubular Bells and GlockenspielAll Rights ReservedProgramme NotesThis popular Christmas carol tells the story of a Bohemian King who braved harsh winter weather to give alms to a poor peasant. This takes place on the Feast of Stephen, the first day of Christmas (December 26th). This legend is based on the life of the historical Saint Wenceslas 1, Duke of Bohemia (907 – 935). In 1853 the English hymn writer John Mason Neale wrote his own version of this tale, setting his words to the melody of a 13th century spring carol “Tempus adest floridum” which had first been published in Piae Cantiones (1582). It is this version that has endured to become the popular carol of today.Jock McKenzieJock McKenzie studied trumpet at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester where he was a joint recipient of the college’s concerto prize. Since 1987 Jock has based his musical career in Hampshire, working as a freelance trumpeter, conductor, composer, arranger and brass teacher. Currently Jock holds the position of Professional Leader (Brass) for Hampshire Music Service and is the Director of the Hampshire County Youth Band. It is the mix of all of these musical roles that has led to Jock establishing a reputation as a leading creator of brass music resources, particularly in the field of education and brass ensemble music.

    Suite Celebration - Bruce Fraser

Bruce Fraser composed this test piece for the 'Gouden Spiker Festival' 2003 (The Netherlands). Suite Celebration was inspired by events in his recent family life. The first movement celebrates the marriage of his daughter and reflects her bubbly personality and vitality. The melodies and harmonies of the whole work are based on a note row which came up during a discussion with the publisher. The second movement celebrates the birth of his grand-daughter 'Rebecca Aileen' and takes the form of a ballad featuring expressive opportunities for the soloists. The final movement is more of a look into the future and hope of success and a good life for his family. Who knows what is coming?

Only You - Vincent Clarke - Andrew Keegan

Originally beginning life as a joke item, this track was to feature on Kylie Minogue’s 2015 Christmas album. James Corden & Kylie Minogue have been good friends since hosting the BRIT awards in 2009 and upon completing the recording, record producers took a liking to it and elevated the song to single status. The piece makes a great cornet/horn duet and although was initially released for a Christmas album, it is not a Christmas song. Light accompaniments and a simple, beautiful melody ensure this new duet will be a hit with players and audiences alike. *Soprano Cornet solo part included as an extra to perform as a Soprano/Horn Duet.

FRANK BRIDGE - THE COMPLETE WORKS (print)

FRANK BRIDGE - THE COMPLETE WORKS Portraits of English composer in his time, with full Thematic Catalog of Works (1900 - 1941), compiled and edited by Paul Hindmarsh Revised edition published in 2016 by PHM Publishing ? 2016 by Paul Hindmarsh 272pp, A4, Print version (? 40.00) available by pre-paid order via www.paulhindmarsh.com PHMB001print FRANK BRIDGE - THE COMPLETE WORKS is a major revision and update of my life and work of this English composer originally published by Faber Music in 1983. Frank Bridge - A Thematic Catalog charted the composer's intriguing creative journey from 1900, the year of his first surviving compositions were 61 in 1941. Much has changed with regard to Bridge research since 1983. His life and work has been the subject of many post-graduate research projects. All his major works have been recorded and are more widely performed. Bridge's music has been in the public domain since 2011. April 13, 2016, when the manuscript of Phantasie in F minor for string quartet (H.55) was discovered in the archive of theWorshipful Company of Musicians. After half a lifetime of writing about Bridge's life and work for journals, program previews and registration notes, I have a lot of writing and an extensive selection of correspondence by Bridge and his friends and some significant 'period' articles and images to create, I hope, a more complete picture of Frank Bridge inthe context of his time. I have also included full details of commercial recordings or each work (up to January 2016) within the chronological sequence. The Challenger - Bertrand Moren

As the title suggests, this piece would be a good venture for those who like to tackle challenges - whether they are life's grand challenges or somewhat simpler tasks such as performing this sonorous, impressive and demanding march. The technical and rhythmical effects contribute to this bravura work which will keep both the audience and the musicians spellbound.
