£33.63Love Eternal (Cornet/Flugel Solo with Brass Band) Jarrod Cooper arr. Lamplough
Love Eternal was written by Gavin Lamplough for Neil Blessett, who at the time of writing was the Principal Horn player of both Birmingham (UK) Citadel Band and the International Staff Band of The Salvation Army. After popular demand, it was set as a cornet or flugel horn solo, both with piano accompaniment and this version with brass band. The arranger uses Jarod Cooper's popular contemporary worship song King of Kings, Majesty as the basis for the work and the piece seeks to provide a vehicle for the rich timbres of the tenor horn to be enjoyed by the listener. The music reflects the Christian musician's desire to offer their talents to God to be used by Him, and the lyrics of the song are ones of contrast as the musical journey of this piece seeks to emulate the juxtaposition through contrasting moods. This light-hearted soprano cornet feature offers a fresh and entertaining take on the well-known Christmas carol We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Thought to date back to 16th-century England, the carol reflects a tradition of festive singing outside the homes of the well-to-do - often accompanied by requests for treats such as figgy pudding, a forerunner of today's Christmas pudding. Kenneth Downie's arrangement embraces the jovial spirit of the original, pairing nimble soprano cornet writing with bright, colourful scoring for brass band. The famous refrain, 'And we won't go until we've got some', sets the tone: cheerful, a touch cheeky, and full of seasonal good humour. £59.99Marcho Brioso (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Marcho Brioso was commissioned by The Brioso Brass, a British-style brass band from Hokkaido, Japan. They gave the first performance in January 2012.The commission was for a bright and breezy march that the band could use as their theme tune, so Marcho Brioso falls into the composer's series of Broadway-style marches, which includes Slipstream, The Bandwagon and Jubiloso. After a short introduction a solo cornet plays the main theme, accompanied by a euphonium counter-melody. A secondary phrase from the horns and baritones leads to a tutti version of the main theme which is followed by the traditional 'bass' strain. A change of key heralds the trio section, which features a cantabile melody on euphonium; this is then taken up by the full band after a short bridge passage and further change of key. This takes us back to the home key which sees a quiet staccato version of the main theme lead to a recapitulation and a short coda which brings the march to a close.Duration: 3:45

A Century of Art was composed for Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht from the town of De Goorn (The Netherlands) for its 100th anniversary in 2022. A version for Fanfare Orchestra was commissioned by the Fanfare Project Orchestra in 2023. The title of the work refers to Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht's 100-year existence and the array of art that has been created in that time. A Century of is a flashy and virtuosic opening work where melodic lines are combined with other surprising compositional elements. You can hear, among some references to some famous brass band test pieces, a quote from Lohengrin by Richard Strauss. A transcription of Lohengrin was used at the 1922 British Open in England, one of the most famous brass band competitions in the world, the same year as Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht was founded. Bristling with energy and vitality, this is a terrific arrangement of the fourth and final movement from Piano Sonata No. 2, which is Sergei Prokofiev's celebrated piano solo piece composed in 1912. The arranger writes: 'Whilst I have endeavoured to maintain the characteristics and flavours of the original piece, I altered and added dynamics and musical notations in a few cases where they seemed to fit the medium of the brass band and to reflect a general performance manner of this piece on a piano. I also added percussion parts which provide additional colour. This carol has become a favourite to many, being performed all over the world in various styles and forms. £63.53Temperamental (Brass Band) Fendall Hill
This work by Fendall Hill was the set test for the 2021 National Brass Band Championships of New Zealand, B Grade. The composer writes: 'J.S. Bach (1685-1750) is deemed by many to be the 'Ulimate Composer'. He added an incredible proportion to the DNA of western music, and his influence is heard in the music of today. Like many artists, he was not overly recognised as a composer during his lifetime, and it took an 1829 performance of the St Matthew Passion by Mendelssohn to ignite a recognition of his place in the music world, a place he has maintained ever since. This piece starts with a similar spark of rediscovery of the music of Bach. It contains arrangements of various works, interspersed with composition based on Bach's chord structures, sections in the style of Bach, and original sections inspired by the moods created along the way. The first section explores the Toccata, and great organ works. This leads into an exploration of his choral works, and a finale based on the Preludes. The word 'Tempered' has different meanings, and all seem to apply to the music of Bach, and these appeal to the musical, engineering and spiritual aspects of my personal life. His music reaches to the humanity and divinity, it has strength, structure and order that creates frameworks in which incredible complexity reigns; and the complexity leads to a wildness, a kind of craziness that represents a range of human moods, and can change without warning. The same piece of music affects people in very different ways. I don't know if it's Bach's music, or us, but it can seem out of control and under control at the same time - the combination is highly temperamental.
