'Come children, come quickly' requires legato playing from the lower band.No. 2161 In God we trust (Ralph Pearce)Although the title derives from the United States of America's much-neglected motto, the music is a journey through to total trust in God and our Lord Jesus Christ. The tunes featured are 'In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust' leading to 'Trust in God'. Increasingly calm music leads to the more recent song 'In Christ alone, I placed my trust'. The music ends with a brief reference to 'In Thee, O Lord, do I put my trust' now in a mood of calm assurance.

£23.50A Brussels Requiem - SCORE ONLY - Bert Appermont
The attacks in Brussels on 22 March 2016 created a shockwave throughout Belgium and the rest of the world. Equally, the attacks in Paris and Nice led to great public indignation, fear and disbelief. What has happened to the western world? Have our cultures grown apart to such an extent that we do not understand each other anymore? Bert Appermont's intention was to voice certain emotions that these acts of terror have caused: particularly fear, grief, anger, and helplessness. He uses the French children's song Au Claire de la Lune as a connecting thread throughout the work. This piece is also about hope and faith in another world, and is meant to pay homage to all victims, resulting in a dignified remembrance. The musical development is presented in four through-composed parts, titled Innocence, In Cold Blood, In Memoriam - We Shall Rise Again and A New Day. This work was commissioned by the Brassband Oberosterreich (Brass Band Upper Austria) to be played at the European Brass Band Championships 2017.

Cavanquino - Nazareth, E.
This is the best known piece by Ernesto Nazareth, a Brazilian popular musician and composer whose musical styles were eventually overtaken by newer ones such as the bossa nova. In a ragtime manner not unlike Scott Joplin's, his music enjoyed huge success and lends itself to showy, extravert arrangement. I have upped the tempo and style to a Thirties' Big Band number with plenty to do for everyone and lots of interest for the audience.

Hungarian March (from The Damnation of Faust) - Berlioz, H.
Included at the last minute in a performance of Faust conducted by the composer in Budapest, The Hungarian March caused a sensation in the politically charged atmosphere of the Hungary of the time. It was encored time and time again. The clever build-up to a stunning climax shows the professional composer scoring a bull's-eye. In fact the opera has nothing whatsoever to do with Hungary : Berlioz' placing the scene 'on a plain in Hungary' was the merest cover up for trying to be sure of a triumph in his concert-tour in that country. Success on the cheap ! In the right circumstances artistic integrity is (a little) negotiable.

The Witches' Sabbath - Berlioz, H.
Arranged as part of a series of finishers (together with Pines of Rome, Procession to the Minster, Entry of The Gods, Bolero, Daphnis, American in Paris etc., etc.,) the full title is 'The Dream of the Witches' Sabbath'. It should have been 'Nightmare.' Shock tactics rarely continue to work for very long in music, buut here they do. This arrangement contains one unique technical feature of its own.

This three-movement work is the first euphonium sonata from the pen of American Joel Collier, himself a fine euphonium player. The composer writes: 'My sonata came about because of a conversation with euphonium soloist Aaron Campbell. We decided to try and do a sonata and get a consortium going, with the idea that it would be written to be approached by the average undergraduate student, rather than it be the next latest, greatest, hardest thing for euphonium virtuosi. What resulted was a three-movement sonata where the first movement is more classical and heavy, with a little bit of tango, the second movement is really a song without words, and the third movement is a upbeat and joyful dance.' "Monteverdi - 3 Miniatures" was composed for the British Open Youth at the Guild 2015 by Adam Taylor. The piece uses small themes from a variety of works by Claudio Monteverdi presented in a modern and (hopefully!) suitable manner for brass band. A few notes on the work: i) Tempos may be adapted to suit your interpretation of the music. ii) The second miniature features a duet. You will find the parts for this duet seperate in both Bb and Eb. Please feel free to choose your own soloists for this section. iii) I have included 3 written percussion parts. Please feel free to add any other suitable percussive sounds if your section is large enough (tambourines, tenor drums, hand bells etc.), or if limited in numbers, do not worry about leaving parts out. iv) Feel free to add any ornamentation you or your players feel suitable and complimentary to the music. v) No sackbut's or Renaissance cornett's allowed. I very much hope you will enjoy playing this piece, and for those in your ensembles who have not yet heard the music of Monteverdi, I hope this piece may serve as a good taster and a fitting educational tool as a small insight into the music of the late Renaissance/ early Baroque period.
