It is well - Trombone Solo with Brass Band (Philip Bliss arr. Kenneth Downie)

VIEW SCORE PDF This is a beautiful arrangement for solo trombone of the wonderful 18th century hymn tune, It is well with my soul, the music for which was written by Philip Bliss to words by Horatio Spafford. The arranger Kenneth Downie writes: 'The tune has a natural nobility which I feel suits the trombone, and the famous words are to be found in almost every hymn book. The final setting is inspired by the majestic hope of the words of the last verse, which were forged in the face of terrible trial and sadness.' Eriskay Love Lilt (with brass band) - Trad

Eriskay Love Lilt is a traditional Gaelic melody from the Western Isles of Scotland, sensitively arranged here by Andrew Duncan as a cornet solo with brass band accompaniment. This arrangement was written in 2001 for Phillip McCann and was first played by him with the Hepworth Band at the 2002 Leek Music Festival in Derbyshire, England. It has also since been recorded by Eleanor Ferguson with the Whitburn Band on Reflections of Freedom.Andrew Duncan comments: The Isle of Eriskay (Eirisgeigh) lies forty miles off the North West coast of Scotland in the North Atlantic. It is a small island, only two kilometres square and lies between the larger islands of South Uist and Barra. Eriskay is one of the islands which form the archipelago known as the Western Isles or Na h-Eileanan an Air. The Eriskay Love Lilt is a hauntingly beautiful tune which is typical of the greater number of traditional Gaelic melodies in that it is largely based on the Aeolian mode, the black notes on the piano. Also available with piano accompanimentor as a solo with brass ensemble (10-piece).

    Clair de Lune

Clair de Lune is a well-known piano piece by French impressionist composer, Claude Debussy. In this new brass band arrangement, Clair de Lune is full of magic, warmth and drama. This cornet solo, as recorded by Jim Hayes on his Debut studio album, Dial M for Midnight, Clair de Lune will show-off your star principal cornet player, allow them to display their warm tone, control and musicality in this well-known piece. The arrangement itself is not a straight transcription as the arranger feels the original is a piano piece written specifically for the technique of the piano. Instead, a whole new sound world is created, with subtle harmonic devices, and some not-so-subtle harmonic devices, such as a Walton-style modal chord. One of the McFadyen techniques is in the sudden juxtaposition of extreme changes in style and tone, and this technique is heard to full effect in this brass band arrangement of Clair de Lune. This is particularly noticeable in the transition from the big and dark finale transitioning into the final closing bars; it's quite an extraordinary and heart-pounding effect that takes your breath away. The final bars are inspired from a track by Chris Botti, where he performs a long high note above the accompaniment.
