When it was announced that prolific composer Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and hit song writer Gary Barlow were to collaborate on a project to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the public were left in little doubt that the music would be an instant hit. We were not disappointed! Gary Barlow travelled across the Commonwealth searching for instruments and voices to perform on the single and the 'Military Wives Choir' were also included in the final edition. Now available for the first time for brass band in an arrangement by Dave Houghton, this moving work projects the 'feel good' factor to your audience and is a perfect addition to a programme on both the bandstand and concert hall. Every year, bands across the country search for something new and different for their Christmas concerts. This year, look no further! In this comedy item, originally composed for piano duet, the feeling of Christmas is ever present. The playful melody is passed around the band including a percussion section solo (with cues for the band if no percussion available). Sketches From the Galley takes audiences on a swashbuckling pirate adventure, evoking images of cannon-fire, pirate ships and jaunty merriment through its contrasting "sketches". The work was commissioned as a concert item for Elland Silver Band, and was premiered at their summer concerts in 2017 around Yorkshire. When Beethoven's First Symphony was premiered on April 2 1800, the audience was baffled by the audacity of its composer. Although the work seems, to late 20th century ears, to be little different from the late symphonies of Mozart and especially Haydn. The very opening bars gave notice to the musical world that here was a composer to be watched. Now the first movement has been arranged for full brass band, making the perfect alternative to an overture at a concert.

Pachelbango - Pachelbel - Ed Keeley
Pachelbel's most famous work as you've never heard it before. This arrangements features all sections of the band and gives them a chance to shine making the piece perfect for both concert or contest venues. Pachelbel's Canon in D is one of the most famous pieces of classical music of all time. Simply written for 3 violins and a cello, the music is basically 8 bars repeated 28 times. Mostly unforgotten until the 1970s it has become one of the most recorded pieces and used at more than 90% of all weddings as an introit. This arrangement has reset the Canon into a Latin-American tango style, pushing it into a new accessible groove and will bring a smile to your audiences & players. Prelude and Chorale is a scintillating, dynamic opening piece based on the brilliant finale from the earlier concert work Aureus. The latter work is built around a magnificent hymn, which also forms the common thread running through this overture.As the title suggests, the work begins with a modern 'prelude': a prologue to the actual hymn. The beginning of the hymn, especially, serves as the source of the thematic material. The hymn melody itself is immediately embellished by a counter-melody and supported by a rhythm section of bass and drums. Malcolm Arnold's ballet, Sweeney Todd, was first staged in 1959 by The Royal Ballet Company with choreography by John Cranko. The music was later adapted as a concert work and it is from this version that this brass band arrangement, by Phillip Littlemore, is made. The original concert suite lasts some 20 minutes, but this version has been shortened to a more manageable eight minutes. The first performance of this arrangement was given on the 22nd October 2006 at the Malcolm Arnold Festival, Derngate, Northampton by the Rushden Windmill Band conducted by Richard Graves. Suitable for Advanced Youth/3rd Section Bands and above. Duration 8:00

Al Sharq (pronounced al-sha-rak) was commissioned by Tredegar Town Band as part of their programme for the 2014 Brass in Concert Championships at the Sage, Gateshead.The piece is an exciting and exotic concert work for brass band, which is heavily influenced by the genres 'Third Stream' and 'Arabic'. The composition is highly rhythmical and percussion heavy, which makes use of 'Tam-tam vibrato' - a technique which was invented by the composer especially for this composition.There are plenty of opportunities for the musicians to try something different, such as the aleatoric harmonic framework at the opening of the composition, shouting, 'hi-fiving', special choreography and even playing a didgeridoo!Al Sharq is a technically demanding piece which exploits the talents of all sections of the ensemble, especially the principal solo cornet, who starts the piece with an atmospheric cadenza. All of this makes Al Sharq a powerful and entertaining experience for both performer and listener.Grade: Advanced Duration:4:17
