This piece was commissioned by the Dutch province of Groningen for the celebrations commemorating the liberation festivities in 1987. In the composition, the dream of a world without war is symbolized. It is the first composition in a series in which Jacob de Haan combines concert music with pop music in a style, which reminds one of film music. In 2009, one year after its formation, the Swiss brass ensemble Azimuts Brass commissioned its conductor, Marc Jeanbourquin, to write them a signature tune. He composed Jazzimut, which features a festive introduction followed by a lyrical theme. After a few bars of rock rhythm, Jazzimut goes disco and finishes with a recapitulation of the introduction as a fanfare. Winning Performance EBBC Lille 2016 Raveling, Unraveling In Search of 'La Valse' was written for the Cory Band as their own-choice test piece for the 2016 European Brass Band Championships in Lille. The piece found its genesis in Sparke's The Unknown Journey (2014) for concert band, and the use of Ravel's La Valse as a structural undercurrent to the original piece is an act of reverence. Sparke's aim was to produce a work that is organic rather than episodic in nature. The composer's view is that little in music does this better than La Valse and for this reason he uses various sections of this masterpiece, both manipulated and quoted verbatim (including much of itsstunningclosing passages) to provide the overall geography of his new work. As the music progresses, more of the Ravel appears, surfacing completely as the piece reaches its climax - a gesture of homage to the French master.

Frontier Vision is a concert or contest piece based on three elements: the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Reformation Day, the Martin Luther melody, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (Ein Feste Burg ist unser Gott) on whichthis composition is based, and thirdly the spreading of the evangelical movement in the late 19th century, of which the analogous storyline forms the structural basis of this work. Multi-cultural ethnic influences, along with the driving rhythms thatreflect the perseverance and hard work of those mission-minded pioneers, are both important components that make Frontier Vision an outstanding choice for your concert or contest. Frontier Vision was the test piece for the seconddivision in the Dutch National Brass Band Championships 2017.
