This medley of famous classical music is the perfect addition to any concert. Beginning with the 'Barber of Seville' before the piece sets off on a journey with tongue placed firmly in cheek! Let your audience here the great classical works of Rossini, Grieg, Liszt, Mendelssohn (& others) as they've never heard them before. The various famous melodies all stay around long enough for your audience to recognize them before being moved off in another direction completely. This work is a musical journey that is perfect for formal proms concerts, yet certainly would not be out of place on a bandstand either. The piece has many opportunities for bands to add their own choreography if desired. A toe tapping, audience pleasing, journey that leaves the audience wanting more. Whilst rehearsals are suspended due to Covid-19, we are making some parts available to download FREE for home use and practice, alongside a downloadable backing track to play along to. Composed by Carlton Main Frickley Band's Composer-in-Residence, Celebration is an epic concert opener composed to begin any programme with an exciting fanfare & hymn style structure. The work opens with 'exultant' fanfares throughout the cornet section & flugel, before a heroic theme is heard in the trombones. After the bold fanfare opening, the music settles into a setting of the hymn, Eventide which features a flugel solo. The middle section of the piece gives the band chance to showcase a warm and sostenuto sound before a reprise of the opening fanfare material is combined with Eventide and the heroic theme to bring the piece to an exciting finale.

Midnight in Cairo - Steven Ponsford
Midnight in Cairo is a fun and light piece of music, suitable for anywhere in a concert. It is atmospheric in its nature, conjuring up images of the lively nightlife in the streets against the backdrop of the Nile and the other ancient wonders of this vibrant city. The music starts in a mysterious mood, with soft vocals around the band accompanying the main theme, before the piece takes off. There are solos for trombone and cornet, which will benefit from the players standing up to play, and improvising if possible.

Song Without Words - Max Stannard
This sublimely simple piece is the perfect choice of solo for bands looking to add a special moment to their concerts. With parts not too demanding, this solo would suit up and coming cornet players that would like the chance to fulfil their moment in the spotlight. The gentle ballad flow of the work would work well at any concert occasion and is open to youth bands as well as more seasoned senior bands.

Festive Fireworks is written in three movements: I. Festivitas, II. Fantasia & III. Fireworks. The piece is based on two different tunes, both presented in the first movement, "Festivitas". II. Fantasia is written as a calm fantasy on the two themes. It includes melodic lines, percussion effects and finish off with cadenza's for Solo Cornet, Solo Horn, Euphonium and Eb Bass. III. Fireworks is a quick movement with lots of energy combined with technique and melodic lines. Elements of the first and second movement is presented and mixed together for a great finale. To the conductor: "I. Festivitas" can also be used as a concert opener or finale and has two differentendings for concert use or contests (by using all the three movements).

Much of Scott Joplin's work is happy in tone, but his concert waltz "Bethena" is full of sadness. The elegant melody lines are given to the solo cornet, the flugel and the euphonium; the accompaniment needs to be both flexible and sensitive. A reflective piece, useful for bandstand and concert hall.

An "unintended" play on words on the title of Mozart's famous composition forms the basis of this solo piece. It was composed in 2004 by the Scottish composer, Bruce Fraser, and features a solo for flugel or cornet. It is not a very difficult piece for both the soloist and the band, but is that always necessary? A lovely, highly recommended intermezzo for your concert.

If you need a beautiful slow interlude for any concert then this is the piece for you. This short work by Italian composer Thomaso Albinoni has a luscious melody that will bring tears to any eyes. For hundreds of years the manuscript of this work had been lost and was only discovered in 1945. Despite this it has become Albinoni's best known work and has topped the classical charts on many occasions. Wonderful figures for the flugel and soprano cornet bring out extra emotion in this arrangement by Jacob de Haan.
