1351: The anointed King (Marcus Venables)This piece was originally written as a massed band item for the Ontario Central-East Divisional Music Day in 2019. The updated version includes two songs, King of kings, majesty (S.A.S.B. 376) and O worship the King (S.A.S.B. 52) to a rhythmic setting of the tune Laudate Dominum (T.B. 481). Both songs present the contrasting characteristics of God; the powerful King and gentle, loving Saviour.1352: A suite of English Christmas carols (Kenneth Downie)This suite is the result of a request for a piece of music featuring exclusively English Christmas carols.The first movement features The holly and the ivy (C.C. 87). In sharp contrast, the second movement calls for a broad, sensitive, song-like approach. Using The cherry tree carol (C.C. 85), a much slower tempo than is normally applied to encourage the listener to see this beautiful tune in a new light. The rumbustious arrival of the finale is based on I saw three ships come sailing in (C.C. 44) with the festive mood prevailing until the end.1353: Nothing but thy blood (Norman Bearcroft)This two-verse setting of Richard Slater's much-loved hymn Nothing but thy blood (S.A.S.B. 769) appears straight-forward in nature, but requires a careful sense of the musical line across all parts.1354: Meditation - Reflections on Advent (Andrew Blyth)Two well-known carols, Away in a manger (C.C. 12) and Silent Night! (C.C. 77) are featured alongside original material. The piece attempts to convey a sense of reflection and meditation on the wonderful and awe-inspiring Advent story.

£30.00Joy to the World - George Frideric Handel
"Joy to the World" is a popular Christmas Carol with words by Isaac Watts. As of the late 20th century, "Joy to the World" was the most published Christmas hymn in North America. The words of the hymn are by the English writer Watts are based on Psalm 98, 96:11-12 and Genesis 3: 17-18. The version of this carol usually heard today is from an edition by Lowell Mason and is named "Antioch" and attributed as "arranged by Handel". This tune has the first four notes in common with the chorus "Lift up your heads" from the Messiah and the third line recalls "Comfort ye" from the same work. But this resemblance is often dismissed as a chance resemblance by Handel scholars today. Another theory is its similarity to a tune called "Comfort" and associated with Charles Wesley's hymn "O Joyful Sound", which was written some three years earlier than Lowell Mason's "Antioch" in 1833. This carol has been recorded by many artists such as Andy Williams, The Supremes, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Cash, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Vic Damone and Mariah Carey.

Written for Birmingham Citadel Band to play at their annual carol concert at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, this piece tells the story of the Nativity using the carols 'Who is he?' and 'Calypso Carol' (Christmas Collection 16). Brief appearances are made by the shepherds ('While shepherds watched'), the angels ('Ding dong! merrily on high') and the wise men ('Three kings' march' and 'We three kings of Orient are'). The music finishes with a majestic setting of the chorus of 'Who is he?', reminding us who the baby Jesus is:'Tis the Lord! No. 1251 Festival March - We Shall Win (Captain Anders Beijer)This march features the tune, 'We shall win' (T.B. 508) and portrays the belief that 'if we fight in the strength of the King' - 'We shall win!'No. 1252 Building Up! (Dean Jones)In 2012, the corps at Horsham were marking their 125th anniversary and this piece was used as part of that occasion. The theme adopted for the celebrations was 'Building hope for tomorrow', which was the inspiration for this piece. The tunes featured are 'Will your anchor hold?' and 'Building up the temple'.No. 1253 Carol Setting - O little town of Bethlehem (Noel Jones)An arrangement of the popular carol, 'O little town of Bethlehem', using the tune 'Forest Green'.No. 1254 Vox Dilecti (Kenneth Downie)Vox Dilecti means 'beautiful voice'. This is an arrangement of J.B.Dykes' melody, complementing words by Horatius Bonar.

1387: March - Temple Foundations (Stephen Gibson)This march was composed for the Newcastle City Temple Band for the official opening of their new church buildings. It features several musical references (Showers of blessing (T.B. 411), I would be thy holy temple (S.A.S.B. 591), Come, ye thankful people, come (S.A.S.B. 9), All the promises of God are sure (S.A.S.B. 893) and Count your blessings (T.B. 183)), opening with the announcement that 'With timbrel and drum, and with flags they come' (N.S.Y.P. January 1977) to commence worship and witness in a new area of the city.1388: Holy Forever (arr. Marcus Venables)This is an arrangement of the popular worship song, written by Brian Johnson, Chris Tomlin, Jason Ingram, Jenn Johnson and Phil Wickham.1389: Goodness of God (arr. Paul Sharman) This is an arrangement of the well-known worship song, written by Ben Fielding, Brian Johnson, Ed Cash, Jason Ingram and Jenn Johnson.1390: The first Nowell (Noel Jones)This is an arrangement of the beautiful carol The first Nowell (C.C. 86). It commences with the motif 'Born is the King' which which is referenced throughout the work and the finishes with the spirited 'Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel'.1391: Gloria a Dios (Ian Clarke)Translated into English, the Spanish phrase 'Gloria a Dios' means 'Glory to God'. The style of this music has its roots in the small musical combinations that entertain the crowds in some Latin American towns and villages (many of which are Spanish speaking, hence the title). Once a melodic idea had taken hold, the chorus Jesus saves me now! (S.A.S.B. 478) seemed to fit perfectly, the words and the music complementing each other in this testament of praise.
