Dreamsong was commissioned by Geir Ulseth and the Nidaros Brass Band from Trondheim, Norway. After a short introduction, the soloist introduces a rather nostalgic melody, accompanied by the lower brass parts. A fast central section is then played by the band, which leads to a climax. Eventually, the main melody played by the solo cornet and flugel horn returns, overlaid with an ornamented counter-melody from the soloist, who then closes the piece with a short cadenza. The very evocative tune to this hymn is called 'Eventide' and was written by William Henry Monk. He was an important figure in 19th century English church music and became organist and choirmaster at a variety of London churches in the course of his lifetime. In 1857, he was appointed the first editor of Hymns, Ancient and Modern, a publication that would eventually sell sixty million copies! It was for this hymnbook that he wrote the tune 'Eventide' to the words, 'Abide with Me' by Henry Francis Lyte. This version, for trombone solo and brass band, was commissioned by Brett Baker.

Soloist, composer and teacher Gardell Simons (1878 - 1945) achieved national prominence as trombone soloist with the Sousa Band. He later successfully made the transition to the orchestral world and became principal trombone in the Cleveland Orchestra as well as being professor of trombone at the Curtis Institute Of Music in Philadelphia.This solo dates from 1915 and describes the soft, gentle breezes of Summer. Maybe the atmosphere surrounding the many outdoor concerts in which the composer performed were his inspiration. This brass band arrangement was prepared at the request of Brett Baker for his visit to perform with Brass Band Of The Western Reserve, musical director Dr Keith M Wilkinson, in May 2010.

This work was commissioned in1985 by Skellerup, Christchurch, New ZealandMovements:Allegro VivaceAndante Con Moto Molto ExpressivoAllegro VivaceDerek Bourgeois wrote Diversions in the summer of 1985 to a commissioned from the Skellerup Brass Band.Bourgeois previous test piece, Blitz, was aggressive and forceful, therefore the composer decided to write a work of a completely different character, which although technically very demanding, is light-hearted in style, and easy on the ear, as the title suggests.The first and third movements share the same tempo, but are rather different in character. The first movement is a sonata allegro contrasting two main themes. The first is bold and jaunty and is heavily scored, the second announced by the solo horn is more lyrical in character. The development section and recapitulation are merged into a continuous interplay of the two themes.The second movement is an expressive andante in free rondo form. It is lightly scored for the most part with a lot of solo passages that make demands on the musicianship of the players and conductor alike. The very simplicity of its textures and the breadth of its melodic writing demand firm control of vibrato, phrasing and rubato.The brief finale is nothing short of a romp. Its ternary structure is highly rhythmic in character and only rarely do the performers enjoy the luxury of two consecutive bars in the same time signature!Duration: 11.00

£34.95A New Dawn (Tenor Horn Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts)
Tenor Horn Solo with Brass BandA New Dawn (2013) was commissioned by and written for British tenor horn virtuoso Owen Farr in late 2013, to provide the title track of his new CD album. With a specific brief, the work was to include a bold ear-catching fanfare-esque opening to bring maximum impact to the opening of the album, before settling in a rhythmic groove which allows the new tempo and reduced texture to settle before the entry of the tenor horn, who's initial four bar motif is what forms the basis of much of the work. Following this, structurally, the work follows with a set of variations, carefully demonstrating the capabilities of the instrument and indeed the player. Bar 90 sees the return of the bold opening gestures, this time followed with a harmonic transformation, before a recapitulation at bar 120 which sees a return to the original tenor horn material and an increase in intensity, volume and virtuosity through to the close.A New Dawn was premiered by Owen Farr and the Cornwall Youth Brass Band on 30th December 2013, and was recorded by Owen and the Cory Band in March 2014, featuring as the title track on his CD release of the same name.
