Fanfare For Celebration
The original wind band version of Fanfare for a Celebration was written for the wind band of Dartington Summer School, under the direction of Paul Dummer. I created this brass version for Regent Brass Band in 2014 under the direction of Paul Archibald. I've also written versions for other brass ensembles which have been used at English Brass Academy courses. It is intended to be a short, exuberant celebration piece of moderate difficulty.

A Celebration of Youth - Harper, P
A Celebration of Youth was written in 2001 for the Worcester County Youth Brass Band conducted by Nicky Daw. It's a lively four minute concert piece suitable for opening or closing a programme, in turn heraldic, then romantic, and always rhythmic. Playable by most levels of bands.4th section +

The sound and culture of brass bands was part of Philip Wilby's childhood, and this short Partita seeks to commemorate his childish memories in the musical terms of today's currency. Although the music makes technical demands on the players the piece is, nevertheless designed to involve rather than impress its audiences. There are four movements: 'Towers and Chimneys' which is both heraldic and mysterious; 'Churches: Lord of the Dance' is an arrangement of the famous shaker melody made popular in Martin Shaw's hymn of Jesus' life and history; 'Pastorale: Sunday Afternoon recalls those long and languorous days before television, and 'Coronation Day Parade' - a community celebration with a brass band at its centre. ROMANS 8 Brass Celebration (Brass Band Set) - Ray Steadman-Allen
Based on the eighth chapter of Romans, this music was composed as a companion to a series of bible studies at the 1985 British National School of Music. The tunes of four songs are presented, each supporting the ideas of the chapter; 'This joyful Eastertide' 'We are born of the Spirit' 'Lord of all hopefulness' and 'In the Cross of Christ I glory'.

The main theme is a wonderful legato melody which is interrupted several times with flowing arpeggios. Following a regal trio melody the main theme returns with a triumphal feel. The Christmas season presents many wonderful occasions for celebrating the birth of Christ. From magnificent cathedrals to the ensemble on the street corner, instrumental settings of the great carols play a very important part in this celebration. A Christmas Celebration is a collection of sacred carols designed to be played by virtually any combination of instruments, from quartets and quintets of mixed instruments, to full orchestras and wind ensembles. The eight arrangements can be played as a complete work, or the director may arrange suites of his/her choosing.
