Cast your mind back to the Covent Garden of Eliza Doolittle and the activity of the dealers, porters, costermongers, and other staff around the market. In cinematographic terms the ideal setting for a set-piece dance routine to reflect the hustle and bustle of trade in the early morning. The market may have moved to Nine Elms, but the activity is still just as vibrant, so we called this piece Covent Garden to reflect the activity which we rarely see, but know exists, in a busy commercial flower, vegetable and food market. The music has a good strong theme which carries the activities, numerous and varied, not always without hindrance but always coming good at the end so that we have food on our plates, flowers to enjoy and a tradition preserved.

This exciting new concerto is a welcome addition to the repertoire of french and tenor horn players alike. Like the 18th-Century Serenade form there are five movements, arranged symmetrically around a slow movement - Soliloquy - which separates movements entitled Burlesque (two) and Valse Caprice (three) respectively. The first and last movements share common material of a more symphonic stature, and the concerto ends with a brisk fugato. The solo horn is (in the band version) accompanied by a quintet of solo players (two cornets, euphonium, trombone, and tuba) who provide the lion's share of the counterpoint and contrast with the main body of musicians who provide musical punctuation in the more sonorous tutti sections. The first movement, Don Quixote's Dream, contains references to Cervantes' famous hero, the Spanish nature of his stories, and the ambling gait of his horseback adventures.

The concerto's three movements are arranged in a circular pattern around a reflective slow movement. At the heart of that movement is a Cadenza, marked to be played off-stage, where the soloist is surrounded and supported by an additional group of fanfare players. By contrast, the outer movements are energetic and brisk, at times heroic, and at times virtuosic. Also available with piano accompaniment.

Concerto for EuphoniumIn League with Extraordinary Gentlemen combines two of composer Peter Graham's life interests - composition and 19th century popular fiction. Each of the concerto's three movements takes its musical inspiration from extraordinary characters who have transcended the original genre and have subsequently found mass audiences through film, television and comic book adaptations.The first movement follows a traditional sonata form outline with one slight modification. The order of themes in the recapitulation is reversed, mirroring a plot climax in the H.G. Wells novella The Time Machine (where the protagonist, known only as The Time Traveller, puts his machine into reverse bringing the story back full circle).The Adventure of the Final Problem is the title of a short story published in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. This is an account of the great detective's final struggle with his long-time adversary Professor Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland. The music takes the form of a slowed down lndler (a Swiss/Austrian folk dance) and various acoustic and electronic echo effects call to mind the alpine landscape. The final bars pose a question paralleling that of Conan Doyle in the story - have we really seen the last of Sherlock Holmes?The final movement, The Great Race, (available separately) follows Phileas Fogg on the last stage of his epic journey "Around the World in Eighty Days" (from the novel by Jules Verne). The moto perpetuo nature of the music gives full rein to the soloist's technical virtuosity. As the work draws to a conclusion, the frantic scramble by Fogg to meet his deadline at the Reform Club in Pall Mall, London, is echoed by the soloist's increasingly demanding ascending figuration, set against the background of Big Ben clock chimes.In League with Extraordinary Gentlemen was first performed in the brass band version by David Thornton and the Black Dyke Band, conductor Nicholas Childs, at the RNCM Concert Hall Manchester on January 30, 2009.

This marvelous setting by Dan Forrest of the classic hymn Great is thy Faithfulness has quickly become a popular item for choirs around the world. This setting for brass band by English composer Andrew Wainwright was commissioned by the Melbourne Staff Band to commemorate Bandmaster Ken Waterworth's final year as Bandmaster before his retirement. It begins with quiet assurance, a beautiful combination of strength and gentleness which continues to build to a dramatic final statement of truth. Commissioned by Micah Dominic Parsons, Blaenwern Diversions is based on the well loved hymn, Love Divine. The composer writes: 'Originally intended to be a set of variations, I found myself wandering around the notes of the hymn tune at the piano and found that the variations almost took on a life of their own resulting in what we have here - diversions. There are 8 diversions in total; the introductory diversion; diversions 1 - 6; and the finale which are divided into three linked movements. Blaenwern Diversions represents my entry into the world of contest works, so even though the piece aims to test the band, it is important that the band enjoy the music within no matter how treacherous!'
