With most of the traditional wedding music coming from large overtures & operas etc, this unique pack of music has been specially designed to minimise fuss (all 4 pieces are printed on just one sheet per part) and have just the "famous" bits included. Specially arranged by Gavin Somerset so that the pieces included can be performed from anything ranging from a full brass band to a brass quintet group and with repeats that can be cut or performed to tailor to each event. £20.00Christmas Concerto
DescriptionThis arrangement of Corelli's famous "Christmas Concerto" features soprano cornet, two solo cornets and solo euphonium. Arcangelo Corelli was one of the first masters of the baroque period, a skilled violinist much admired by fellow composers like Bach and Handel. He was born in Fusignano, near Ferrara in Northern Italy in 1653. He studied in nearby Bologna where he became an extremely competent violinist. By the 1670s he was working in Rome and building a reputation as a composer at the important and powerful Papal court. By the late 1600s he was widely famous all over Europe, regularly invited to important courts and palaces. Although he had a huge influence on the virtuoso writing of later composers, his writing for string instruments was designed to be playable by average, often amateur players.His set of Concerti Grossi known as Opus 6 was not published in his lifetime. We think they were written around 1690, and they were first published in Amsterdam in 1714, a year after Corelli's death. A 'Concerto Grosso' is a concerto for a group of soloists (the "concertino" group) accompanied by an ensemble (the "ripieno" group) and was an important form in the Baroque era. Handel's very successful examples were modelled on Corelli's example. Number 8 from the Opus 6 set was commissioned by the Venetian Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni and bears the inscriptionFatto per la notte di Natale('made for the night of Christmas'). It was used as part of the soundtrack for the 2003 film 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World".Performance Notes.In this arrangement the 'Concertino' group are the soprano cornet, solo cornets 1 & 2 and the solo euphonium. If logistics allow they should stand either at the front of or some distance away from the band. There is no percussion in this arrangement. Henry Purcell (1658 1695) is generally considered as one of the greatest English composers. He incorporated Italian and French stylistic elements into his compositions and made uniquely English baroque music. He has a rich production as composer, with works for orchestra, church, scene and vocal. In 1692, three years before his dead, he composed music to The Fairy Queen, who is a masque or semi opera who is a revised version of William Shakespeare's wedding comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream. This arrangement of Symphony is the overture to act number four.

Arild Sandvold (1895 - 1984) began his studies at the Music Conservatory in Kristiania (Oslo) in 1906, in piano and organ as well as music theory. After his debut as organist and pianist, he had his debut as orchestral conductor in 1924. At the same time he also had two periods of studies in Leipzig. In addition to studies in piano and organ, he received tutoring in composition. He was a teacher at the Oslo Music Conservatory and organist and a cathedral cantor in Oslo for more than 50 years. Sandvold brought both Baroque and Romantic organ works to a wider audience. He wrote a number of works for organ, in addition to music for choir and orchestra. The polyfony of the lateBaroque and the harmony of the Romantic period serve as the basis of his musical style. "A Christmas Pastorale" arranged with thoughts about the brass bands possibility for sound and colour, and should be a nice piece to do on concerts in the Christmas time.

Tochter Zion, also known as See the Conquering Hero Comes, is the most famous chorus from the oratorio Judas Maccabaeus (1746) by the composer George Frideric Handel (1685-1759). The heroic epic based on the Biblical story about commander-in-chief Judas Maccabaeus, was used by Handel to celebrate the English victory over the rebellious Scottish. The first performance of this patriotic work - written in the pleasing, rich baroque style that Handel's music is known for - was conducted by himself; the success was huge. The chorus See the Conquering Hero Comes was added later, in 1748, drawn from another oratorio (Joshua).

Martin Luther expressed radical views which began the reformation movement. His followers protested at the treatment given to Martin Luther, the event from which the term 'Protestant' was derived. It was first published in Joseph Klug's Gesangsbuch in around 1535. Add a majestic Baroque feel to any concert with this simple yet effective arrangement.
