Commissioned in 2007 by Superbrass to write a trombone feature for Andy Wood. Mark writes:- "Roger asked for something not too fast with a Spanish flavour - so I created a slow Bossa Nova with just a hint of Bolero vaguely in the tradition of Jobim with undertones of Ravel." In the seventies, Elvis Presley gave many concerts with an orchestra that included a large wind section. These concerts were characterised by enthusiasm and a fast tempo. Jan Van der Roost originally composed each and every note of 'Slavia' (as in case in 'Puszta', 'Rikudim' and 'A Highland Rhapsody'). Consequently, 'Slavia' does not contain any arrangement of existing tunes, but is an original composition 'in the style of...'. The introduction has an ABA structure and exposes a broad melodic line. Following a short cadenza, there is a second movement in a fast and fiery tempo. The tempi increase, gradually culminating in an exciting final climax, making this 'Slavonic Rhapsody' a spell-binding experience to the very last note.Duration: 8:00

Peter Warlock's set of set of six dances in renaissance style, Capriol Suite, is by far his most famous work. The suite consists of Basse-Danse, a lively dance for older folk; a stately Pavane; a delicate, yet lively Tordion; Bransles (pronounced 'Brawl'), a fast country dance which works its way into a frenzy, continuously building in speed and excitement; Pieds-en-l'air, with its beautifully serene lines and Mattachins, an exhilarating sword dance with its driving rhythm, culminating in violent dissonances bringing the piece to a spirited close. This is a new arrangement suitable for any band, including those in the 4th Section that relish a challenge. Percussion has been added in all but one of the movements, and is for two players.
