2269: Intrada - Christians Awake (Stephen Gibson)This intrada heralds the happy morning when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. Fanfares surround the traditional Christmas Day hymn, Christians Awake (C.C. 20), where we are encouraged to 'awake, salute the happy morn'. Written in a processional style, this music was composed as a concert opener to be performed in a large church setting.2270: Jesus loves me (Stanley Kelley)Jesus loves me! (S.A.S.B. 807) is a song many church-goers learn as children. While written for children, its message is for everyone. John 15:9 says, 'As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.'2271: Prelude on 'Deep Harmony' (Geoffrey Nobes)This piece was written for the Blendworth Band of Hampshire. The hymn tune, by Handel Parker, is one of the most beautiful and iconic melodies ever written, with lovely harmony supporting the rise and fall of a simple but perfect melodic line.2272: To the hills (Paul Sharman)The inspiration for this arrangement came during a walking holiday in the Lake District. Looking towards the hills brought to mind the words of Psalm 121 and Ernest Rance's setting of that passage, I Lift Up My Eyes (S.A.S.B. 208), with its lovely tune Ochills. This arrangement was written shortly after the composer's return home.

This composition is a very challenging one for the soloist and requires the accompaniment to be subservient at all times. The soloist will find it helpful to, generally, adopt a very light and playful style. As a young aspiring cornet player, the composer was influenced by a number of soloists of that day, one being Del Staigers of the Goldman Band in the USA. Many of the musical motifs reflect that influence and it is hoped that this solo will, in turn, inspire the many aspiring cornet players of today

£33.35Adagietto from Symphony No.5 (Brass Band) Mahler arr. Keith M. Wilkinson
Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5 is arguably his best known and most loved composition. The Adagietto from that symphony, often performed on its own, is scored for strings and harp only and is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful tunes ever written. It is marked sehr langsam (very slow) and is immensely serene and tranquil, often performed at commemorative events such as the concert following the events of September 11th, 2001. It has been said that the movement is a love song to the composer's wife, Alma. The symphony was composed in 1901 and 1902 and this movement received its British premiere in 1909 at a Promenade concert directed by Henry Wood. The Adagietto received additional popularity when used in the 1971 film Death In Venice. This arrangement by Keith M. Wilkinson shortens the movement slightly and now gives brass bands the opportunity to programme this delightful work. £37.04Gothique Fantasy - On a theme by Boellmann (Brass Band Score) Andrew Wainwright
This magnificent work was commissioned by The Illinois Brass Band for the 2024 North American Brass Band Championships. It is also the title track of the 2026 CD by Black Dyke Band, featuring the music of Andrew Wainwright. Please note this PDF download is for the full score. The full set can be purchased here. Based on Leon Boellmann's epic organ work Suite Gothique, the 3rd movement of which is entitled Priere a Notre-Dame (A Prayer for Notre Dame), it pays tribute to the nearly 700-year-old Notre-Dame de Paris after the fire which did so much damage to this iconic building. Notre-Dame stands out for its three pipe organs (one historic) and its immense church bells, which are referenced at various times in Gothique Fantasy. Two of the other movements from Boellmann's work also provide inspiration for the piece, firstly the Introduction - Choral, and the famous Toccata, snippets of which appear at various times in the piece. Gothique Fantasy opens with the Choral, a solo offstage cornet sounding the opening statement. A quintet, stood to the side of the stage, takes up the Choral, while the rest of the band enters on held muted notes, creating a sustained effect evoking the harmonies spreading across the vast cathedral. Colossal organ-like sounds announce themselves as the full band takes on the theme. A lively Animato follows. Here there are continued references to the Choral, while the famous Toccata motif starts to appear. A Misterioso section ensues, which leads into a poignant Prayer for Notre Dame featuring a euphonium duet, where the music reflects upon the devasting fire and centuries of history and artefacts that were lost. A lone euphonium the sounds, representing the remaining remnants of the cathedral. A chaotic and rhythmic Presto, based on the Toccata, then follows and tests the technique of the band from top to bottom, whilst moving through various time signatures, the pulse lacking any sense of stability. A return to the Choral theme leads into a further reflective section, this time featuring the secondary theme from the Toccata with a flugel and solo horn duet. Next the music arrives at an aleatory section (Senza Misura), which depicts the remnants of the fire, followed by the grand cathedral emerging out of the ashes. Various motifs from earlier in the piece are heard across the band. At this point, various parts enter at different times on the conductor's signal, before building towards a 6/8 Presto. Here the music gathers momentum as it leads to a Grandioso finale featuring the Choral in all its glory. However, to conclude the work, the final strains of the Toccata sound, bringing the work to a glorious conclusion as Notre-Dame rises again! Aldebaran - Maurice Forslund - Maurice Forslund
We are pleased to offer this new piece from our colleague, Maurice Forslund, in Sweden. "Aldebaran" is a traditional-style brass band march, named after one of the brightest and largest stars in the Northern sky. (The star is a red giant over 40 times the size of our Sun). The music starts off in a sombre minor key that turns progressively brighter step by step. This sequence is arrested by a brief section featuring a setting of the hymn tune 'Bangor' which dramatically puts the march firmly back into the minor key before setting it up for progression to the finale. This piece is graded in the range 'easy' to 'intermediate' and is well within the capabilities of most bands.

The tunes used are 'When we all get to Heaven', 'When the roll is called up yonder' and 'We shall win'.No.1220 Garden of my heart (Terry Camsey)The publication of this music is, in a small part, a fitting tribute to Major Terry Camsey who was Promoted to Glory in June 2011. The title is taken from the refrain from a much-loved Sidney Cox song; 'Jesus, Jesus, Lily of the valley, Bloom in all thy beauty in the garden of my heart'.No.1221 My life, my all (Andrew Mackereth)This selection attempts to emphasise the personal nature of Christian commitment hence the emphasis given to the words 'my' and 'I' in the songs chosen. The tunes 'Rockingham', 'All I have I am bringing to thee' and 'At thy feet I bow adoring' are included.No.1222 Tenor Horn Solo - You love me (Brian Willetts arr. Paul Sharman)This arrangement was made at the request of David Lynch, Solo Horn player in The International Staff Band. Originally published in April 1993, the song speaks of the fact that, despite the wonder and vastness of God's creation, he still loves each one of us individually.

£33.35Bagatelle No.25 in A Minor - Fur Elise (Brass Band) Beethoven arr. Olaf Ritman
Perhaps the most well-known piano piece by Ludwig van Beethoven, Bagatelle No. 25 in A Minor (written around 1810) is better known under its subtitle 'Fur Elise'. Even to this day it is still unknown who Elise was, with at least four theories claiming to tell the story. It might have been one of Beethoven's students or Therese Malfatti, a young lady who got much attention from him. The theory is that Beethoven's autograph Ludwig Nohl could not decipher his handwriting and might have read Elise instead of Therese. Nevertheless the piece has become extremely popular over the last two centuries and is often the very first real classical piece a beginner pianist goes to. Many classical pieces have been transcribed in contemporary fashion for brass bands in recent times, with Toccata in D Minor by J.S. Bach arranged by Ray Farr being the most popular and more recently Vivaldi's first part of Winter from The Four Seasons arranged by Philip Harper. This arrangement of Fur Elise fits in this series perfectly and seeks to bring a smile to its listeners. The last two bars are a direct tribute to Ray Farr's aforementioned arrangement of Toccata. ABOUT THIS PIECE: "Korobeiniki" is a nineteenth-century Russian folk song that tells the story of a meeting between a peddler and a girl, describing their haggling over goods in a veiled metaphor for courtship. Outside of Russia, "Korobeiniki" is widely known as the Tetris theme (titled "A-Type" in the game), from its appearance in Nintendo's 1989 version of the game. One of our most popular arrangements, this piece is high-paced and features all the usual trappings associated with this musical style - fireworks to start, a slow, melancholy iteration of the melody, an unruly accelerando, and all finished with a loud shout ('Oi!') from the band! EUPHONY (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band Set) - Robert Redhead
Previously only available in manuscript form, this euphonium solo with brass band accompaniment is now available in printed format. Euphony (meaning a pleasant, sweet sound) is based on the tunes of Sidney Cox with material taken from the songs; 'He found me', 'This one thing I know', 'You can tell out the sweet story' and 'Deep and wide'. At the time of writing, the composer remarked; 'The euphonium is often associated with melodies and harmonies that lend themselves to pleasing sounds'. That is true of this solo but it also presents considerable technical challenges for the soloist in terms of range and technique.
