Johann Baptist Georg Neruda was an 18th century Czech violinist and composer. Classical trumpet players include his Concerto in Eb for Trumpet & Strings as one of their favourite solos, which is often performed on an Eb Soprano Trumpet. My son Jon, a fine trumpet and cornet player, has played it often. Soprano Cornet player Simon Morgan asked me if it could be done with a brass band. I have taken the lively 1st movement, and adapted it as a soprano cornet solo. This piece was originally commissioned by Denbighshire County Council for the Ruthin Area Brass Band. The composer, Lucy Pankhurst, has further dedicated it to Dennis Williams and Ann Pritchard-Jones "for their long-standing support".This work is made up of three movements - Fanfare, Theme and March, and offers lots of melodious energy. It's very accessible scoring for lower section bands and youth bands and provides an ideal way to work original compositions into your concert programme.

Louis James Alfred Lefebure-Wely is historically associated with the development of French organ music, as well as with organ technique. As a composer he was instrumental in the evolution of the French symphonic organ style and his works include many pieces for church use, and lighter fare like marches and sorties.It is probably in the latter genre that Lefebure-Wely scored his most enduring successes on the organ, with pieces like the sorties in B flat and E flat.Sue Hopkins has artfully captured the magic of Lefebure-Wely's writing and produced this great new piece which offers a perfect complement to your concert programme.
