£33.33The Lord Bless You and Keep You (Brass Band) John Rutter arr. Andrew Wainwright
John Rutter's popular choral benediction is based on Numbers 6:24-26, and has here been arranged for brass band by Andrew Wainwright. It is a setting of a biblical benediction, followed by an extended 'Amen'. Rutter originally scored the piece for four vocal parts (SATB) and organ. He composed it in 1981 for the memorial service of Edward T. Chapman, the director of music at Highgate School, London, with whom he had studied when he attended the school. The arrangement sounds a semi-tone down from the original choral setting although otherwise maintains the same format, so can be performed with choir if they sing down a semi-tone. DURATION: 4 minutes. DIFFICULTY: Moderate. 'As The World Falls Apart' was composed for David Maxted as part of the programme for his BMus Final Recital at the RNCM in May 2017. The work was composed in a time of real political and social divide, with chaos only ever seeming minutes away, and the base of the piece is one of serenity and traniquility amongst the bedlam which is occurring around us all. Originally, the work was planned to be a totally free unaccompanied work for solo horn, however I wanted to make use of the vast space the RNCM concert hall can offer with the surround-sound speakers and decided to utilise a short sound effect track to enhance the feeling of chaos as the music reaches it's peak in dynamic and intensity. At the gates of Asgard (Bra) - Stijn Aertgeerts
A fierce Viking dies in battle and arrives at the gates of Asgard. The theme of the Viking is immediately present at the opening of the piece. He fights till his last breath before ascending to Asgard. In the slower movement, he can see the breath-taking beauty of the landscapes behind the gates, but before entering he has to prove his worth first in trial and combat. In the finale of the piece, the Viking finally gets to enter Asgard and spend his afterlife there.

The Poseidon (Bra) - Pimpanit Karoonyavanich
In Greek mythology "Poseidon" is the god who reigns over the sea, the waters and their gods. The opening of this work reflects the power of Poseidon. He could turn a calm sea into a rough and turbulent sea that swallows up ships. With his famous trident he can generate an earthquake, hence his nickname "Earth Shaker". Every living being is afraid of him, including his wife and children. Deep inside, however, he feels lonely. The middle part of this work shows the other side of Poseidon as a normal person who desires for love and understanding. However, this sad but sweet theme doesn't last long because its angry character resurfaces. He starts again to use his power in an aggressive way and the powerful opening theme is repeated. After "A Journey to The Bermuda Triangle", this is the second work in which the composer has drawn her inspiration from her favourite seascape painting by the Belgian painter Romain Steppe (1859-1927).

LORD IS KING, The (Brass Band Set) - Ray Steadman-Allen
Ray Steadman-Allen was for many years the driving force in Salvation Army music. His publication list of both brass and vocal works can be measured literally by the hundred. 'The Lord is King' is arguably his crowning achievement of over twenty major works for brass band. Although described as a suite, the work is more symphonic in conception and scale as well as being formidable to perform. The work is based on the Welsh hymn tune 'Llangollen' to which the hymn 'The Lord is King, I own His power' are associated. The three movements derive inspiration from the lines 'My joy, my toil, my craftman's skill, all have their place, and serve His will' found in verse five of the hymn.

£23.95The Red Kite (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
At one time the Red Kite was close to national extinction in the UK but now it is possible to admire this distinctive bird of prey with its red colouring and forked tail. I love watching it soaring so gracefully through the sky. I attempted to catch that feeling in this solo composed for Martin Smith. In writing it I had in mind making the euphonium glide solitary and effortlessly, occasionally swooping down then reclaiming its high altitude.To create the desired atmosphere, I avoided too many root position chords and enhanced the feeling of floating by adding notes to a lot of the harmony, giving it subtle colour. The harmonic rhythm is slow but the movement switches in the way that the Red Kite can make slight changes of direction by minor adjustments of its tail. On top of this accompaniment the soloist is left to sing with a sense of grace and freedom.- Rob WiffinDuration: 3.45

Kevin Houben created with When the Lights Go Down, a wonderful chorale that can be a moment of reflection in any concert program. The resigned, magnificent melodies at the beginning of this composition slowly build up to a highlight with an increasing orchestration. The piece starts with a suggestive Adagio Meditativo, after which the main theme is immediately announced. A central bridge section takes the listener along through the different spheres at which the melodic and rhythmic drums embellish the chorale melodies. Thematic elements from the introduction brings the piece to a quiet and peaceful end. The sheer simplicity with which this work is written, makes it a resplendent, magnificent concert piece. 'When the Lights Go Down', refers to a moment when time stand still for a while, stillness within and around yourself.Duration: 9.00

Edvard Grieg (1843--1907) is best known for his eternally popular Piano Concerto in A Minor, as well as more than 150 songs and 66 lyric pieces. March of the Trolls is from his Lyric Pieces, Op. 54. Trolls are a constant theme in Norwegian folklore and can be viewed as the equivalent of our "boogie man." Far to the north in Norway where the winter storms whip the weather-beaten coasts, you will find dark forests with moonlit lakes, deep fjords surrounded by mighty snowcapped mountains, and long rivers and cold streams cascading down the mountain sides. This is where you might find the irritable, short-tempered trolls coming out of their hiding places after sunset, marching to wreck havoc on unsuspecting Norwegian households. Wait and see what your audience will do when the Trolls march up and down the aisles of your next concert!
