£25.00Christmas Concerto
DescriptionThis arrangement of Corelli's famous "Christmas Concerto" features soprano cornet, two solo cornets and solo euphonium. Arcangelo Corelli was one of the first masters of the baroque period, a skilled violinist much admired by fellow composers like Bach and Handel. He was born in Fusignano, near Ferrara in Northern Italy in 1653. He studied in nearby Bologna where he became an extremely competent violinist. By the 1670s he was working in Rome and building a reputation as a composer at the important and powerful Papal court. By the late 1600s he was widely famous all over Europe, regularly invited to important courts and palaces. Although he had a huge influence on the virtuoso writing of later composers, his writing for string instruments was designed to be playable by average, often amateur players.His set of Concerti Grossi known as Opus 6 was not published in his lifetime. We think they were written around 1690, and they were first published in Amsterdam in 1714, a year after Corelli's death. A 'Concerto Grosso' is a concerto for a group of soloists (the "concertino" group) accompanied by an ensemble (the "ripieno" group) and was an important form in the Baroque era. Handel's very successful examples were modelled on Corelli's example. Number 8 from the Opus 6 set was commissioned by the Venetian Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni and bears the inscriptionFatto per la notte di Natale('made for the night of Christmas'). It was used as part of the soundtrack for the 2003 film 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World".Performance Notes.In this arrangement the 'Concertino' group are the soprano cornet, solo cornets 1 & 2 and the solo euphonium. If logistics allow they should stand either at the front of or some distance away from the band. There is no percussion in this arrangement. Saturday in the Park - Robert Lamm - Lars Erik Gudim
This is on of the group Chicago's most popular ballads, still doing great after beeing recorded in 1972 on their fifth album. Chicago's main songsriter, Robert lamm, wrote this after a particulary exhilarating 4th of July spen in New York's Central Park, where there were steel drum players, singers, dancers and jugglers. This was originally used as a soundtrack to an unreleased home video. It became the group's first gold single.

Grant Kirkhope is a BAFTA nominated British composer who has created the soundtrack for video games that have sold in excess of 30 million copies. From "GoldenEye" to "Banjo-Kazooie", "Viva Pinata" to "Donkey Kong", "Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning" to "Civilization: Beyond Earth" and "Perfect Dark" to "Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse". He has also recently scored the feature film "The King's Daughter" starring Pierce Brosnan and William Hurt and is currently working on "Yooka Laylee" and "Dropzone". Grant's score for "Viva Pinata" was nominated by BAFTA in the Original Score category in its 2007 awards. Grant is represented by the prestigious Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency by Cheryl Tiano and Kevin Korn. Grant has a degree in music from the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, where he majored in classical trumpet, is a green card holder and now lives in Agoura Hills, LA with his wife and two children.

Tiger In The Night - Mike Batt - Len Jenkins
"Tiger in the Night" is a song made popular by Colin Blunstone and Katie Melua, and takes its inspiration from the poem by William Blake.It features in the soundtrack of the 1997 film 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying' which was based on the 1936 book by George Orwell. The title of the book is a reference to 'Keep the Red Flag Flying' but applied to the stuffiness of the British Middle Class. The music for the film was composed by Mike Batt who was also responsible for "The Wombling Song" and "Wombling Merry Christmas" which we also publish for brass.

Theme from the BBC TV series by Nigel Hess - one of the most celebrated composers of music for film and television - which evokes the Staffordshire Potteries of the late 19th century in which Arnold Bennett's tale is set.
