£34.99Shackleton's Cross (Cornet Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts)
Shackleton's Cross was inspired by a painting created in 1957 by the English artist Edward Seago (1910 1974). The title refers to a cross which was erected to the memory of Sir Ernest Shackleton, who led a number of explorations to the Antarctic. Shackleton died in 1922 whilst on a Polar expedition, and the cross can be found on a promontory at the entrance to the bay at Grytviken Whaling Station in South Georgia. The painting is owned by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, and was part of an exhibition at Buckingham Palace from October 2011 to April 2012. Originally scored for oboe, trumpet and small orchestra, Daniel Hall's sensitive arrangement for trumpet or cornet and brass band follows the composer's alternative version for solo trumpet and organ, created for Crispian Steele-Perkins (trumpet) and David Goode (organ). First Light was written for Kirsty Abbotts and Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band. A slow lilting melody is presented in the cornet solo and passed between the band and the soloist to create images of the tranquil night before the piece reaches a climactic moment which is meant to represent the beams of light emerging as the sun rises. The theme is then presented in a tutti forte section before arriving at a tranquil finish. First Light is featured on the Kirsty Abbotts and Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Bands CD, A Search for Peace.

JUST LIKE HIM (Cornet Solo with Brass Band Set) - Terry Camsey
This solo was written at the request of David Daws and The International Staff Band. David liked the solo 'Kim' by Allan Street and wanted a solo in similar style. It requires musicianship beyond mere technique and calls for keen interpretive skills. Built around 'He giveth more grace' and an arrangement of 'There is a name I love to hear', there is plenty of scope, in a variety of styles, for the soloist's artistry to show through.

HAPPY DAY, A (Cornet Solo with Brass Band Set) - Erik Leidzen
This composition was awarded first prize in the Theme and Variations Section of the 1926 Salvation Army Band Music Competition and has remained popular with cornet soloists and audiences ever since. This was the first in a trilogy of cornet solos with the word 'day' in the title written by Erik Leidzen, the others being 'Happy all the Day' and 'Wondrous Day'.

A condensed score is included with this workGregson wrote his Prelude and Capriccio in 1972. It exists in two versions: one for cornet and band and the other for cornet or trumpet and piano.The work began life in the early sixties, the Capriccio being composed when the composer was 17. A Prelude was added to complete the work, which lasts for approximately 8 minutes. The Prelude is reflective in character and uses long melodic lines over undulating chromatic harmony. The music reaches a climax before a brief reprise of the opening. The Capriccio is somewhat jazzy in its opening syncopated rhythms, but has a more lyrical middle section before a finale exploiting the virtuoso character of the instrument.

Poor Parisa Love was your Achilleswas commissioned by the Flowers Band for the 2022 Brass in Concert Championships held at the Sage in Gateshead. It was written for the Soprano Cornet legendPaulRichards. The work is inspired by the tragic love story of Paris and Helen of Troy during the Trojan War. The work opens with a mournful and sombre tone, reflecting the sadness of Parisa destiny to fall in love with the queen of Sparta. The melody becomes more optimistic, reflecting the blossoming romance between Paris and Helen. However, the music returns taking a sombre turn, reflecting the awkwardness of the situation, representing the beginning of the Trojan War and Parisa tragic downfall.
