    Feed the Birds - Sherman Brothers

    Feed the Birds was commissioned by Paul Holland and the Flowers Band, and received its world premiere at the 2016 Brass in Concert Championships at The Sage, Gateshead - with Paul Richards receiving the award for 'Best Soprano Cornet'.Feed the Birds is a song written by the Sherman brothers and featured in the 1964 motion picture 'Mary Poppins'. The song speaks of an old beggar woman (the "Bird Woman") who sits on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral, selling bags of breadcrumbs to passers-by for tuppence a bag so that they can feed the many pigeons that surround the woman. The scene is reminiscent of the real-life seed vendors of Trafalgar Square, who began selling birdseed to passers-by shortly after its public opening in 1844.

    Vitae Aeternum - Paul Lovatt-Cooper

    Vitae Aeternum represents the first substantial composition conceived by Paul Lovatt-Cooper in his capacity as 'Composer in Residence' to the world famous Black Dyke Band. Vitae Aeternum (meaning 'Eternal Life') takes its inspiration from songs composed by Ivor Bosanko and Dick Krommenhoek and is in three continuous movements.Vitae Aeternum was commissioned by Gerard Klaucke of GK Graphic Design VOF and received its first performance in the De Lawei Concert Hall, Drachten, Holland on 25th August 2007 played by Black Dyke Band conducted by Dr. Nicholas Childs. Later that year, it formed the finale of Brighouse and Rastrick Band's winning programme at the Brass in Concert Championship and has since been embraced by other leading bands including Cory Band, Leyland Band and The International Staff Band of The Salvation Army.Both Prima Vista Musikk and the composer wish to acknowledge and thank the support and co-operation of Colonel Dick Krommenhoek, Ivor Bosanko and The Salvation Army.

    St Peter’s Chorale was commissioned by Paul Holland and the Flowers Band for their 2017 Butlins Mineworkers’ Championship entertainment programme.The band had chosen a London theme for their programme, and the of this work relates to St Peter’s Chapel in the Tower of London, a rare place of safety and sanctity around the time of the Great Plague outbreak of 1665. There are small references to the children’s song ‘Ring a Ring o’ Roses’, which many believe is about the plague.

This light-hearted work uses the melodies of traditional nursey rhymes that have an association with London; Oranges and Lemons, The Muffin Man, Pop Goes the Weasel, Humpty Dumpty and Mary Mary Quite Contrary. Each setting of the rhyme depicts a famous landmark from the capital; Big Ben, the Thames, the Underground, Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade and the Tower of London.
