£40.00Crown Imperial - William Walton arr. Phillip Littlemore
William Walton composed his Crown Imperial for performance at the coronation of King Edward VIII, which was scheduled for the 12th May 1937. However, due to the dramatic abdication of Edward, it was in fact performed at the Coronation of the new monarch, King George VI, which took place on the same scheduled date. The march became popular immediately, and arrangements for piano solo, organ, small orchestra and military band were all published within a year. It has been used at all Royal events since, most notably the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and latterly King Charles III.This new brass band transcription is in keeping with the shorter, 6-minute concert version that Walton created immediately following the Coronation of George VI. However, the scoring is more in keeping with contemporary brass band voicings, corrects errors in the previous brass band transcription by Frank Wright, and provides a much more exciting version for brass band. Tchaikovsky's symphonic poem Francesca da Rimini: Symphonic Fantasy afterDante, Op. 32, was composed in less than three weeks during his visit to Bayreuthin the autumn of 1876.This fantasia presents a symphonic interpretation of the tragic tale of Francescada Rimini, a beauty who was immortalised in Dante's Divine Comedy. Francescada Rimini, a noblewoman, fell in love with her husband's brother. After the loverswere discovered and killed in revenge by the husband, they were condemned toHell for their adulterous passions. Iain McKnight's arrangement of the exciting Finale was first performed by theLeyland Band at the 2011 Brass in Concert and was used to conclude the band'swinning performance.

The Witch of the Westmerlands - Harper, P
Arranged for the Leyland Band's 2010 Brass in Concert programme. This is a sumptuous, lyrical setting of Scottish folk singer-songwriter Archie Fischer's originally up-beat song, with solos for baritone and cornet. The words tell the story of an ancient knight wounded in battle and dying on the battlefield who is healed by a mysterious old lady appearing from across the moors and swiftly vanishing again.The original version was sung by, amongst others, Barbara Dickson who has said she is a big fan of Philip's sensitive arrangement.Listen to Cory BandCourtesy of World of Brass
