Fanfares and Proclamations was originally written in 2015 by Steven Ponsford for the massed bands of the International Staff and Melbourne Staff Bands of The Salvation Army. This piece of music, suitable as a concert opener, makes use of the hymn tunes Miles Lane and Diadem, both of which are associated with the words 'All hail the power of Jesus name'. COMPOSER: Alex McGeeThebombing of Dresdenwas aBritish-Americanaerial bombing attackon the city ofDresden, the capital of the Germanstate ofSaxony, duringWorld War II.In four raids between 13th and 15th February 1945, 722 heavy bombers of theBritishRoyal Air Force(RAF) and 527 of theUnited States Army Air Forces(USAAF)dropped more than 3,900 tons ofhigh-explosivebombsandincendiary deviceson the city.The bombing and the resultingfirestormdestroyed more than1,600 acres (6.5km2) of the city centre.An estimated 22,700to 25,000people were killed.Three more USAAF air raids followed, two occurring on 2nd Marchaimed at the city'srailway marshalling yardand one smaller raid on 17th April aimed at industrial areas.

SILVER STAR (Brass Band Set) - Ray Steadman-Allen
The title of this march, published in 1962, refers to the pin originally given to the mothers, but now also the fathers, of cadets entering The Salvation Army's Schools for Officer Training. It includes the song, 'Mothers of the Silver Star' (words by Arch. R Wiggins, music by George Marshall) which was specially written for the first occasion at which Silver Stars were presented. Also included is a Salvation Army flag song, 'Yellow star, and red and blue' also written by the aforementioned Wiggins and Marshall.

In writing this piece the composer set out to emulate the sound of the Stan Kenton big band and music of that 'golden' era. The piece itself is based around two Salvation Army tunes that are associated with the word, 'salvation'; Steadily forward march! (T.B. 799) and Hark, hark, my soul (T.B.542). The music is intentionally flamboyant and requires a secure grasp of the style and rhythm to be successful. It was featured at the Belfast Temple Music School to great effect.
