The King of Love My Shepherd Is - Mike Kilmartin

The King of Love My Shepherd Is - arr. Jess Langston Turner - transcribed for brass band by Mike Kilmartin - 4'50'' - BVT043 Lovely arrangement of this traditional Irish hymn with a lovely text by Henry W. Baxter. The text paraphrases Psalm 23. It has found recent fame at as result being sung at the funeral of Diana Princess of Wales in 1997. Dedicated to the transcribers mothers in law and grandfather in law whom both passed away during a 4 week period in the summer of 2013. I, Mike Kilmartin, found by writing this piece it has helped me to come terms with what has happened to my family. My hope is that for anyone whom has lost someone can get the same comfort from this piece as I do.

I Shall Love But Thee - Jan Van der Roost

I Shall Love But Thee is an occasional work in the literal sense of the word, since it was originally written on the occasion of the composer's youngest son's wedding. The texts, by William Shakespeare, inspired Jan Van der Roost to compose profound and appealing music, largely in the style of Henry Purcell (in the first part) and Georg Friedrich Handel (in the second part)??"although no literal quotations have been used. The rather rare combination of soprano and brass band makes this piece a unique addition to the repertoire!

The Mansions of Glory - Score & Parts - Jonathan Bates

“A young, talented and tender-hearted actress was passing along the street of a large city. Seeing a pale, sick girl lying upon a couch just within the half-open door of a beautiful dwelling, she entered, with the thought that by her vivacity and pleasant conversation she might cheer the young invalid. The sick girl was a devoted Christian, and her words, her patience, her submission and heaven-lit countenance so demonstrated the spirit of her religion that the actress was led to give some earnest thought to the claims of Christianity, and was thoroughly converted and became a true follower of Christ. She told her father, the leader of a theatre troupe, of her conversion and of her desire to abandon the stage, stating that she could not live a consistent Christian life and follow the life of an actress. Her father was astonished beyond measure and told his daughter that their living would be lost to them and their business ruined if she persisted in her resolution.Loving her father dearly, she was shaken somewhat in her purpose and partially consented to fill the published engagement to be met in a few days. She was the star of the troupe, and a general favourite. Every preparation was made for the play in which she was to appear. The evening came and the father rejoiced that he had won back his daughter and that their living was not to be lost. The hour arrived; a large audience had assembled. The curtain rose and the young actress stepped forward firmly, amid the applause of the multitude. But an unwonted light beamed from her beautiful face. Amid the breathless silence of the audience, she repeated: ‘My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine,For thee all the pleasures of sin I resign; My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art thou,If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.’ This was all. Through Christ she had conquered and, leaving the audience in tears, she retired from the stage, never to appear upon it again. Through her influence her father was converted, and through their united evangelistic labours many were led to God.” 1. My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine,For thee all the pleasures of sin I resign; My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art thou,If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.2. I love thee because thou hast first lov?d me,And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow,If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.3. I will love thee in life, I will love thee in death, And praise thee as long as thou lendest me breath; And say, when the death-dew lies cold on my brow; If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.4. In mansions of Glory and endless delight,I’ll ever adore thee and dwell in thy sight; I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow: If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now. Christians Awake - Paul Lovatt-Cooper

Christmas time is my favourite time of year. I love the festive spirit and all the Christmas music both traditional and modern.I came across the carol "Christians Awake" a number of years ago when I played in a carol concert with the Black Dyke Band and the Halifax Choral Society. I think it is a fabulous carol and it is now one of my favourite Christmas carols. Two good friends of mine; Angela and Christopher Clough were married during the Christmas period in 2007. They both play with the band Wardle Anderson Brass who played at their wedding. They asked me if I could compose a piece for the band to play while Angela walked down the aisle. So for their wedding present I composed a fanfare using the carol Christians Awake. They were thrilled with the piece as was I. It works really well as a concert opener or an opener to the second half of a Christmas concert. It should be played with lots of bravura and pomp and full of the spirit of Christmas.Paul Lovatt-Cooper

    A Christmas Finale - Paul Lovatt-Cooper

As the title suggests, A Christmas Finale provides an ideal close to any Christmas concert. Paul Lovatt-Cooper has taken a collection of popular works associated with Christmas and expertly crafted this wonderful piece to provide both the listener and performer with an exciting Christmas musical experience. A note from the composer: I love the magic of Christmas. I find the whole experience exciting, from the handing out of presents to the movies shown on television. However, it is the music I love the most, from Christmas carols to Christmas number ones, it all adds to the unique atmosphere and sense of joviality associated with this wonderful time of year. A Christmas Finale captures my yuletide emotions and will hopefully provide enjoyment for you too! Merry Christmas.A Christmas Finale was composed at the request of Nicholas Childs and Black Dyke Band and recorded by the same performers on The Black Dyke Christmas Carol (DOYCD220).

A Simple Song - Joel Collier

In 2017 I accepted a new job opportunity that required me to move halfway across the country. While it was an exciting opportunity, it meant leaving behind all the friends and colleagues I had grown to love. A Simple Song was a way for me to express this bittersweet goodbye, both sad to leave people behind, yet hopeful of what was to come. The premiere was given with The National Capital Band, where I had served as principal euphonium since 2011, less than a week before I left. It is dedicated to those I left behind.
