He will hold me fast (Trombone Feature with Band) Matt Merker arr. Noel Brooks

Originally conceived as a trombone duet for the graduation recital of Andy Brooks at Western University, this setting of Matt Merker's popular choral work has been adapted by Noel Brooks as a featured work for trombone trio with brass band. The arrangement follows the emotional arc of the hymn's lyrics, utilising the brass band's colours to reflect the themes of each verse. The journey begins with a sense of vulnerability; the accompaniment is kept sparse and cold to echo the text's plea regarding a failing faith. In the second verse, the music transitions into a more encouraging and uplifted atmosphere, reflecting the assurance of being "precious in His Holy sight." A shift occurs in the third verse, which takes on a darker, more reflective character to support the gravity of the lyrics. This contemplative section builds steadily toward the final chorus, where a sense of confidence returns. The work culminates in a strong musical statement of the hymn's central promise: "He will hold me fast." I was glad (Brass Band with Organ - Additional Parts) Parry trs. Wainwright

I was glad was originally a choral introit which is a popular piece in the musical repertoire of the Anglican church. It is traditionally sung in the Church of England as an anthem at the coronation of the British monarch, most recently that of King Charles III in May 2023. This transcription for brass band combines the choral and accompaniment parts meaning it is playable as a standalone arrangement. An optional organ part is included to augment the brass. The cornet section is divided into two choirs to create an antiphonal effect. The 'Vivats' are included in this transcription but an optional cut is provided for that section. Pachelbel for Brass (Canon in D) - Brass Band (Pachelbel arr. William Himes)

VIEW SCORE PDF Canon in D is certainly the most popular and enduring work of Johann Pachelbel (1653-1674). With its repetitive and foundational bass line and the lyrical imitative themes that follow, this music has proven to be especially well suited as a wedding processional, with the flexibility to reduce or lengthen the music as needed for the occasion. Here it has been arranged by William Himes for brass band with flexible scoring, meaning it is playable by as few as 12 players but works equally well with a traditional size band. There is an optional cut reducing the total length of the piece by around 1.30 minutes if required. PDF download includes score and full set of parts. Seaside Odyssey (Brass Band) Liz Lane

Seaside Odyssey is a celebration of the British seaside! The music represents a juxtaposition between natural and manmade elements; there are two main musical themes - the reflective sea (a wordless setting of John Masefield's Sea Fever) and a more lively 'seaside' theme, heard separately in different ways and later together. From childhood memories, sand, beach and cliffs to cafes, ice creams, fish and chips, buckets and spades, boating trips, beach huts, bandstands, piers, theatres, gardens, mini golf, arcades and more, Seaside Odyssey is a journey from dawn to dusk with the sea at the heart of the music. This work was commissioned by Grimethorpe Colliery Band for its seaside tour, August 2023, where it performed at Paignton, Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Shanklin and Herne Bay. Includes optional poems and words specially curated from poets associated with the seaside towns, which can be read before a performance. New Dawn, A - Christopher Bond

A New Dawn (2013) was commissioned by and written for British tenor horn virtuoso Owen Farr in late 2013, to provide the title track of his new CD album. With a specific brief, the work was to include a bold ear-catching 'fanfare-esque' opening to bring maximum impact to the opening of the album, before settling in a rhythmic groove which allows the new tempo and reduced texture to settle before the entry of the tenor horn, who's initial four bar motif is what forms the basis of much of the work. Following this, structurally, the work follows with a set of variations, carefully demonstrating the capabilities of the instrument and indeed the player. Bar 90 sees the return of the bold opening gestures, this time followed with a harmonic transformation, before a recapitulation at bar 120 which sees a return to the original tenor horn material and an increase in intensity, volume and virtuosity through to the close. A New Dawn was premiered by Owen Farr and the Cornwall Youth Brass Band on 30th December 2013, and was recorded by Owen and the Cory Band in March 2014, featuring as the title track on his CD release of the same name.

    Cranborne Chase - Philip Harper

Cranborne Chase was commissioned by the Charles Church Camberley Band in 2011 in memory of solo horn player and life-long member Libby Godden.Libby joined the band in 1966 which marked the start of a long association, during which she progressed to the solo horn position, recruited four family members to play with the band, and had spells on the committee as publicity officer and chairman. Most recently she led the Training Ensemble in her role as Assistant Bandmaster. Libby continued to be active with the band despite a diagnosis of cancer, which finally claimed her life in February 2011.Programme notes from the composer, Philip Harper:The Music: As well as invoking the joyous spirit befitting Libby's approach to life, there are several musical ideas woven into the score. After a brief introduction, the main theme uses the musical letters of Libby's surname: G, O(A), D, D, E, N(G), whilst the harmonic progression here is based on that of the slow movement of Edward Gregson's Partita for Brass Band, one of Libby's favourite passages of music. To further imbue the piece with Libby's persona, the lyrical theme is first introduced as a traditional brass band quartet (two cornets, horn and euphonium), one of her favourite musical genres. After the first rehearsal of the piece the band members, with the composer's blessing, decided on the name Cranborne Chase, which is the name of a place in Dorset with which Libby Godden had a great affinity.Raising Funds for Cancer Research UK. The Music Company (UK) Ltd has been involved in charitable work for many years both nationally and internationally. Through publishing Cranborne Chase, The Music Company is extending its charitable support by helping to raise funds for the Cancer Research UK charity, in memory of Libby Godden (a band-friend since childhood of Clair Tomalin, Business Director of The Music Company (UK) Ltd).A donation will therefore be made by The Music Company (UK) Ltd for every purchased set of this piece. There is a hope that every band in the UK will have Cranborne Chase as part of their library and included in their concert programmes, enabling a significant amount of money to be raised for Cancer Research UK through the enjoyment of music.

    Feel

This duet for Eb tenor horn with brass band has been skillfully scored by Tim Paton, recreating this popular melody brought to fame by singer Robbie Williams.Tim comments:At the end of 2002, Robbie Williams presented us with the song "Feel". My wife, Julie, loves Robbie Williams, she also loves playing Tenor Horn with Flixton Band, so I took this sensitive and memorable music by Guy Chambers, and arranged it as a horn duet with brass band accompaniment for her birthday in 2003. Also available as a full brass band version.
