Let Freedom Ring - Jonathan Bates

Martin Luther King Jr. is remembered as one of the most influential and inspirational African-American leaders in history. Through his activism and inspirational speeches, he played a pivotal role in ending legal segregation, and received the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition. In 1968, at only 39 years of age, Martin Luther King Jr. was tragically assassinated following a speech at the Mason Temple in Memphis. His life and work have been honoured with a national holiday, and through this work the composer pays musical tribute to the visionary leader who had a seismic impact on race relations throughout the United States."Let Freedom Ring" are words spoken by Martin Luther King Jr. during his famous "I Have a Dream" speech, and are the inspiration behind this work, commissioned by David Childs especially for Paul Richards and the Flowers Band, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's death. The world premiere, given by Paul Richards and Flowers under the baton of David Childs, formed part of Flowers Band's winning performance at 2018 Butlin's Mineworkers Championships, where Paul Richards also won the soloist prize.Let Freedom Ring can be heard on the 2018 CD release, Celebrate - 50 years of Flowers.

Choose Freedom (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Downie, Kenneth

Choose Freedom is largely derived from the composers' own setting of Richard Slater's words, 'Yes, there flows a wondrous river' for SATB choir which was published in The Salvation Army's Choral Festival Series under the title 'The mighty river'.After many allusions to the song, it is eventually stated in full in the trio section. Downie's effective use of varying harmonic colours, unusual instrumental voicings and modal harmonies stand out in this rhythmically diverse march. There are quite a few loud passages in the march so conductors should savour the quieter ones!

SONG OF FREEDOM (Brass Band Parts only) - Arnold, Malcolm

Brass Band Parts only. Score and Children's Voices SA parts available separately. Op.109 Song of Freedom was commissioned by the National School Brass Band Association to commemorate the Association's 21st Anniversary. The first performance was given on 12th May 1973 at the Harlow Sportscentre by the Netteswell School Band and Choir, conducted on that occasion by the composer. The idea sprang out of a desire by the N.S.B.B.A. to mark it's 'coming of age' by bringing into being a work for chorus and Brass Band which was within the scope of an average School Band and Choir. The four movements are: Prelude; Hymn; Intermezzo; Postlude. Duration: 19:00
