    Festivity March - Alan Beaumont

    This march is the perfect way to open your festive programmes. Opening up with a fanfare to announce the start of a concert, the music then settles into a traditional march format with festive melodies. The Bass Solo consists of 'Ding Dong Merrily' which precedes the gentle Trio section of 'In the Bleak Midwinter' and finishing with a hint of 'Jingle Bells'. For Christmas 2020, we have made backing tracks of this title for you to download. The march opens in a festive 6/8 time with lots of dynamic contrast and characteristic 6/8 rhythms. The Trio-section however is written in 2/4 time and is very lyrical.     Onwards with Grieg is a festive march commissioned by the Norwegian concert band, Skjold Nesttun Janitsjar, for their 115th anniversary in 2019.The famous Norwegian composer, Edvard Grieg (1843-1907), wanted a local band in his area and donated money for instruments so the band could establish in 1904.The march quotes some of Grieg's most famous works: Piano Concerto in A-minor, Triumphal March as well as his own signature interval.
