Sparkling Overture was written to celebrate the centenary of the Swiss brass band La Musique Militaire de Rougemont. This energetic and dynamic piece opens with a festive and resolutely positive fanfare. The much more tranquil and lilting second theme is a magnificent chorale which is then followed by a brilliant return of the first motif. 2012 National Championships Finals - First Section.Commissioned for the 2012 Section 1 Finals as a celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the work is in three contrasting continuous sections that run continuously and the music is derived from Parry's coronation anthem, I Was Glad. The sections are:In Memorium, evoking the noble but gentle personality of the Queen's father, George VI. Opening with an atmospheric baritone solo (and later featuring solo horn, flugel horn, euphonium and solo cornet), the music explores themes of grief, sentimentality and hope.Coronation, a fanfare and subsequent theme which is grandiose in style, capturing the spirit and excitement of British pomp and ceremony.The closing, Jubilate is a celebration of life and family values, Vivat being Latin for life, or long life. The music passes through moments of tension, virtuosity, humour and jubilance before a finale constructed from connected musical fragments, drawn from throughout the work, form (for the first time) Parry's majestic I Was Glad theme.Duration: 10.45

£152.99Between the Two Rivers (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Between the Two Rivers was commissioned by Fanfare Prins Hendrik, from Aalst in the Netherlands. The title derives from the fact that the town of Aalst lies between two tributaries of the River Dommel. The community is a highly religious one, so the famous Luther chorale, Ein' Feste Burg, was an obvious choice for Philip Sparke to use as the theme for this new work. It takes the form of a theme with four contrasting variations. Variation 1 is a moto perpetuo, variation 2 has a slower march like feel, variation 3 is a sinister slow movement and the final variation is in the form of a lyrical fugue. Between The Two Rivers is sure to become a major work in modern brass band repertoire.Duration: 15:00

£60.99Centennial Prelude (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
This short opening music was composed on commission of the symphonic band of Jan Van der Roost's village (= Kontich near Antwerp / Belgium). In 1991, this community band celebrated its 100th anniversary. After composing commissioned pieces from different countries (even from Japan), this was the most 'near' commission he ever received indeed! It is a short but varied piece, featuring all sections of the band. After a short introduction, played by the brass instruments, a crisp rhythm starts and boxes the main theme. After a second theme, played by brass and percussion, a short melodical passage brings some 'rest'. At the end, the fanfare of the introduction reoccurs. Although this "Centennial Prelude" isn't a really demanding piece, it sounds colourful and energetic. It has been recorded on CD by the band of the 'Royal Dutch Airforce' and the 'Desford Colliery Brass band'.Duration: 3:30

For seventy years, the North West Area Brass Bands Association has been representing bands in the North West of England and surrounding areas. Their members come from Cheshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Isle of Man, Lancashire, North Wales, Staffordshire and Yorkshire. Prelude 1946 was commissioned to mark this special land-mark year. Taking inspiration from John Williams 1988 Olympic Spirit, the work opens with a heraldic fanfare before moving into its stately main theme, which gradually builds into a triumphant climax. £66.51Metamorphosis on 'Finlandia' (Brass Band) Andrew Wainwright
This major work was commissioned by Five Lakes Silver Band and its Musical Director Christopher Ward in February 2024, and is featured on the band's CD Resurget Cineribus. The music is based on the hymn tune by Katharina von Schlegel, Be Still, My Soul, found in Sibelius' famous tone poem Finlandia (Op. 26). While the only source material used in Metamorphosis on 'Finlandia' is the hymn itself as opposed to any of the developmental music found in the tone poem, it does also seek to depict the strife of the Finnish people against the censorship of the Russian Empire. It is therefore both rousing and turbulent at various times. Metamorphosis on 'Finlandia' commences with a quartet playing a full statement of the hymn in its simplest form, featuring a solo flugel. This leads into a sprightly 6/8 section where a fanfare-like figure proclaims the theme. The music in this section is at times unstable and off-kilter as references to the hymn come and go, often in a very chromatic or dissonant form - a reflection of the struggles that the Finnish people went through. Despite this, there is still a sense of optimism. A somewhat reflective slower section follows, featuring another full rendition of the hymn, with a number of solo voices taking up the tune. This is followed by several cadenzas - for cornet, trombone, Eb bass, and Bb bass, which represent different voices speaking out against the oppression of the Finnish people. This leads into an energetic final movement before a resounding proclamation of the hymn in its full glory. A return to the fanfare heard earlier in the work brings the piece to a glorious conclusion. Salute (Bra) - Stijn Aertgeerts
'Salute' is written for conductor Nico Meylemans and the Royal Fanfare Band 'Moed & Volharding' from Heist -op-den -Berg (B). The work commemorates all war victims from Heist-op-den-Berg who died during World War I. The salute is a sign of respect for the fallen, the famous 'Last Post' theme is also incorporated into the piece.
