Song Without Words - Max Stannard
This sublimely simple piece is the perfect choice of solo for bands looking to add a special moment to their concerts. With parts not too demanding, this solo would suit up and coming cornet players that would like the chance to fulfil their moment in the spotlight. Meaning Little Star, this work is so beautiful and simplistic that is raises smiles from all who hear it. Whilst playing with James Shepherd Versatile Brass, Euphonium & trombone player, Nigel Lawless penned this new work as a gift to Rob & Claire Westacott on the birth of their daughter, Jessica. Now cleverly scored for full band, the work combines the two famous melodies of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Brahms lullaby. Playable by most standards of bands, this slow melodic piece fits easily into any concert programme and provides a chance to showcase lyrical soloistic playing and delicate accompanying skills. The work was recorded on the JSVB final CD release, Legacy.

Every year, bands across the country search for something new and different for their Christmas concerts. This year, look no further! In this comedy item, originally composed for piano duet, the feeling of Christmas is ever present. The playful melody is passed around the band including a percussion section solo (with cues for the band if no percussion available). Audience participation can be used as they rattle keys to mimic the sounds of Sleigh Bells. Of course, no comedy work would be complete without some singing from the band. This really is a treat for all concerned and is a piece that will make any Christmas concert come to life with something different.

Sketches From the Galley takes audiences on a swashbuckling pirate adventure, evoking images of cannon-fire, pirate ships and jaunty merriment through its contrasting "sketches". The work was commissioned as a concert item for Elland Silver Band, and was premiered at their summer concerts in 2017 around Yorkshire. Composed by Elland Silver Band's Composer-in-Residence, Nick Brocklehurst, this thrilling piece provides a fun challenge that showcases the entire band, and guarantees to please audiences with its catchy melodies.

£29.50A Shropshire Lad - George Butterworth - Duncan Wilson
A major concert work for band, this tone poem is based on Geroge Butterworth's song cycle of the same name, itself based on the poetry of A.E. Housman, concentrating on the very personal effects of The Great War. Butterworth himself fell at the Somme in 1916. This is the second arrangement of Butterworth's music by Duncan Wilson after The Banks of Green Willow was recorded by both Black Dyke and Rothwell. The music is intense and poignant and an ideal piece for this year's centenary of the Armistice.

Using Your Mobile - Various - Stephen Tighe
Its happened to most bands, in the middle of a quiet moment in the music, an audience member's mobile phone rings (or worse, a band members!!!). Now, all can be forgiven in the fantastic "tongue-in-cheek" piece of music. Based around the music of Johann Strauss, this lively arrangement pokes fun at the Grand Waltz (Nokia's preferred ring tone!), as well as some of the other often heard ring tones (William Tell etc). Fantastic entertainment value, working well in just about any concert.

When Christmas Sleeps - Gavin Somerset
This little arrangement is playable by all levels of bands and is a wonderfully harmonised medley of "Silent Night" and "The First Nowell". A perfect addition to the Christmas program and scored well for lower section bands with parts doubled, making this item work well on the concert stage, or out and about carolling. When Thunder Calls was commissioned by Dr Nicholas Childs and the Black Dyke Band for their performance at the Gala Concert of the Swiss Open Championships in September 2011. When composing this piece, I decided to focus on both the music and the stage presentation. The way the piece has been composed and designed makes it a very effective way of starting a concert or a second half of a concert.At the start of the piece, the percussion enter the stage and take their positions in their usual place behind the band. They begin playing the piece without a conductor. They keep repeating the opening section while the Basses, Horns, Baritones and Euphoniums march onto the stage.This group of musicians take their seats with the Horns, Baritones and Euphoniums sitting where they usually sit in the band but the Basses sit where the solo cornets usually sit, forming an inner semi-circle of lower brass. When seated and when the music gets to the end of bar 4 the piece continues onto section A. All performers keep repeating this next 4-bar phrase until the trombones march onto stage and stand at the front of the stage with the Bass Trombone standing in between the other two trombones.All performers then play from figure B to C with the trombones taking the lead at the front. When the performers get to rehearsal figure C they repeat this section (the same as section A) while the trombones move from the front of the stage and take their positions where the Basses would normally sit (between the horns and the percussion) and remain standing. Meanwhile, the flugel enters the stage and stands at the front of the stage (standing where the trombones did). When in position the flugel soloist picks up into rehearsal figure D.When the flugel soloist finishes playing, just before rehearsal figure F they then move to their normal seat in the band. At figure F the cornets march onto the stage from either side, they turn and stand side by side each other facing outward towards the audience forming two 'fanfare' lines either side of the lower brass. The conductor follows the cornets on stage and on cue they lift their instruments at the same time and perform when the piece gets to figure G.There is no more moving around from this point on other than the solo cornet to move forward with the solo euphonium and perform their duet at letter H. Also the horns are required to stand and play at letter I and then sit just before J.When performed with all the choreography, this piece makes for an exciting addition to any concert repertoire both for the performer and the audience.Suitable for 3rd Section Bands and Above
