DIFFICULTY: 1st+. DURATION: 5'00". 'To a New World' was composed for the Foden's Band's winning performance at the 2023 Brass in Concert Championships, held at The Glasshouse, Gateshead where the band performed a set of music inspired by the Disney classic, 'Aladdin'. This was the finale to the band's programme, beginning in the frozen wastelands where Jafar has banished Aladdin and Abu, before they are rescued by the Magic carpet and escape back to Agrabah, battle Jafar once more, defeating him and taking Jasmine's hand in marriage. The music itself uses a number of quotes from songs within the original soundtrack, notably 'Prince Ali', 'One Jump Ahead' and 'A Whole New World'.

DURATION: 5'00". DIFFICULTY: 1st Section+. 'Water Lilies' is a setting of a short poem by the American War poet Sara Teasdale from 1937. Teasdale's evocative writing is steadily becoming a renowned influence for composers - particularly in the choral scene, and this was where my first introduction to her work was founded in a work by Eriks Esenvalds entitled 'Stars'. . The percussion writing in this depicts a gentle ripple on a lake as water lilies float by at dusk, whilst the band writing explores a deep and personal interpretation of Teasdale's words which whilst on the face seem quite dark and brooding, yet really seem to express a feeling of longing and determination. . Water Lilies . If you have forgotten water lilies floating . On a dark lake among mountains in the afternoon shade, . If you have forgotten their wet, sleepy fragrance, . Then you can return and not be afraid. . But if you remember, then turn away forever . To the plains and the prairies where pools are far apart, . There you will not come at dusk on closing water lilies, . And the shadow of mountains will not fall on your heart. . Sara Teasdale (1937). .

'Lament for the Pride Lands' was composed for Skelmanthorpe Band's programme of music celebrating the 30th anniversary of Walt Disney's 'The Lion King' at the 2024 Red Admiral Entertainment Championships. At this point of the story, Simba stares up into the night sky and the stars appear to form the face of his late father Mufasa who remind him of his place in the great Circle of Life and encourages him to return to the Pride Lands from which he fled as a young cub.

A Poem against War A Poem against War was commissioned by Psalm 150, Dinxperlo for the project Leven in Vrijheid!.Starting point of the composition of this piece was the poem A Poem against War from the American poet Karen Kapowich. The poem tells of young lives that are broken in their start because of war.A monument - founded in memory of the soldiers who gave their lives - is hardly noticed and even ignored. Children find the tree-sheltered memorial place rather scary and even the narrator speeds up his stride when passing. Underlying theme is the otiosity of war.The musical piece is composed of two parts that are being played without interruption. The first part explains the drama of the battle. The second part is based on the poem of Karen Karpowich in which we look back on the sacrifices that have been made. The text is sung by a Mezzo Soprano and emphasizes the bloodshed that comes along with every war. The opening theme returns at the end of the piece but in a complete metamorphosis, wherein optimism and vigor take place for resignation knowing that history repeats itself time and time again. A Poem against War had its premiere on 25th November 2012 in de DRU Cultuurfabriek in Ulft by Fanfare-orchestra Psalm 150, Dinxperlo led by Tijmen Botma. A Hairy Scary Spider is the second part of the musical theatre piece Welcome to Halloween. This piece can be ordered separately or as part of the complete set. The piece describes a day in the life of a hairy, scary spider. In the beginning you aren't really sure what you are looking at. Is it a ball of wool or a big shadow? It turns out to be a spider sitting happily in his web. At a certain point while the whole band is watching him carefully, he jumps which leads to an inevitable scream.

Kelly wrote this march for the 1948 Kneller Hall March Contest. With the 4/7th Dragoon Guards Kelly took part into the landing in Normandy on D Day, june the 6th 1944; actually he was injured himself at the end of july. 'ARROMANCHES' is a suiting tribute to the heroes of the Allied landings at Arromanches.

£71.00Three Pictures for Band - Oliver Waespi
This composition consists of three sound pictures. Numerous associations mutually link those parts as far as motifs and harmony are concerned. The motif of the ascending and descending fourth plays an important role in many a theme. There are many fourth chords by means of which I try to put a harmonic and unifying stamp on the composition as a whole. Moreover there are similar or identical, though varied, motifs in the successive parts. The first part 'Cortege' (Procession) describes the dignified majestic procession by means of simple, precise rhythms. At first, the music is scarcely audible, as if coming from a distance; it gradually comes nearer until it reaches its climax in large chords, before fading away again. At each quarter note one could imagine a step. The second part 'Dialogue' consists in broad outlines of dialogues between the different orchestral groups. Some instruments are asking questions, others are giving answers. After a rather sad passage, the music turns into a climax followed by a second passage that brings comfort and leads to a quiet ending. In the third part, there is a sudden movement coming up in the shape of 'Waves'. The principle of the wave, successively swelling and decreasing, dominates the entire musical structure of this part, even in the separate motifs.Oliver Waespi

DescriptionThe band's uniform badges feature a significant local landmark, a transmission tower officially known as The Arqiva Tower but known more colloquially to locals as 'Emley Moor mast'. The current elegantly tapered concrete sculpture, the tallest freestanding structure in the UK at 1084 feet, is the third mast on this site and was built between 1969 and 1971 after the catastrophic collapse of the previous structure.On 19 March 1969 a combination of extreme icing and strong winds caused the tubular mast to collapse across Jagger Lane and the chapel opposite - fortunately, despite the fact that the organist was in the chapel practising, nobody was injured. Several million people lost their BBC2 and ITV signals, until the Independent Television Authority managed to set up a temporary transmitter nearby!Just over two years later the new mast was operational, and despite initial opposition from some locals who feared another, potentially worse, collapse, Emley Moor Mast is now a popular local landmark and a grade II listed building. In 2015 the mast was illuminated with coloured lights at night to mark the 'Grand Depart' of the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire.You can listen and follow the score in the video below:
