It was written for the opening ceremony of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf (Allgau, Germany) and can be played in four different versions depending on your needs or the players available. You can use a complete version, a short fanfare played just by cornets, trombones and timpani, a double fanfare (extended with tutti-band) or a fanfare version followed by the hymn. Fanfare and Hymn is an extremely practical and versatile ceremonial opening piece.

The well-known chorale Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (Let the Earth Now Praise the Lord) was written by Martin Luther in 1524 and derives from a translation of a hymn from the 4th century before Christ. The melody was composed by JohannWalter, however Johann Sebastian Bach used it as a basis for many cantatas. Ave Verum Corpus - Edward Elgar - Robert van Beringen
Edward Elgar (1857-1934) originally composed this work in 1887, as a Pie Jesu, when he was an organist in the St George's Church in Worcester. Years later, in 1902, he transformed the Pie Jesu into an Ave Verum for soprano and tenor solo, mixed choir and organ. This excellent arrangement was created by Robert van Beringen and skilfully retains the wonderful atmosphere of the original composition.

Gustav Holst composed almost 200 works, one being a very elegant and charming fantasy on the old English christmas carols: 'Good Christian Men, Rejoice'; 'God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen'; 'Come Ye Lofty, Come' and 'The First Nowell'. The fantasy called Christmas Day was originally written for Mixed Choir with Orchestra or Organ accompaniment. Robert van Beringen has arranged this work for concert band exactly 100 years later.
