JOY THROUGH THE AGES (Brass Band Set) - Howard Evans

This work was written for the 125th anniversary of Boscombe Band, celebrated in November 2011, and is the title track of the band' album released in the same year. The music is celebratory in nature and is dedicated to all those who have served in the band during its 125 year history. The theme of the work is a song by Charles Hutchison Gabriel which was the favourite of the band's librarian, Gerald Whittingham, who was 'promoted to Glory' after a long battle with a brain tumour. The title comes from the last verse, 'When with the ransomed in Glory, his face I at last shall see, 'twill be my joy through the ages, to sing of his love for me'.

JOY UNTOLD, A (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band Set) - Terry Camsey

This short, light-hearted solo has been described as The Salvation Army's answer to 'The flight of the bumble bee' and requires facility from the soloist and accurate accompaniment from the band. The solo opens and closes with whimsical references to Erik Leidzen's famous euphonium solo 'The Song of the Brother' and includes the tunes 'A robe of white' and 'I'll serve Thee'.

JOY-BRINGER, The (Brass Band Set) - Kenneth Downie

This Festival (Concert) March was a pacesetter among 'new' Salvation Army marches of the 1960s with its refreshing harmonic language and use of Latin American rhythmic style.

JOY, PEACE AND HAPPINESS (Brass Band Set) - Richard Phillips

An ideal concert opener (first or second half) where the idea is that the band appear on stage section by section starting with percussion followed by basses and so on!

JOYOUS CARILLON (Brass Band Set) - Norman Bearcroft

This music takes the form of a double trio (cornets and trombones) with full brass band accompaniment and is based on the composer's own Christmas song for female voices, 'Carol of the Bells'.

JUBILANCE (Cornet Solo with Brass Band Set) - William Himes

This exuberant fantasia for soloist and band requires double-tonguing for the quick and brilliant introduction. Not only the soloist will be extended with this work - the band accompaniment is also demanding and will need to be given full attention. The solo builds to a brilliant climax and is an ideal showcase for Cornet soloists.

JUST AS I AM (Brass Band Set) - Wilfred Heaton

A typically dramatic 'classic' by Heaton. Published in 1947 but written many years before, this timeless composition is more than 'just a hymn setting' - more a miniature Tone Poem of real Heaton intensity. Immensely popular for both SA and 'contesting' bands and featured on no less than 6 recordings in this catalogue.

JUST LIKE HIM (Cornet Solo with Brass Band Set) - Terry Camsey

This solo was written at the request of David Daws and The International Staff Band. David liked the solo 'Kim' by Allan Street and wanted a solo in similar style. It requires musicianship beyond mere technique and calls for keen interpretive skills. Built around 'He giveth more grace' and an arrangement of 'There is a name I love to hear', there is plenty of scope, in a variety of styles, for the soloist's artistry to show through.

JUST LIKE JUAN (Brass Band Set) - Kevin Larsson

Norman Bearcroft's 'Just Like John' is given the salsa treatment and provides a great opportunity to showcase soloists and the percussion section!
