King Cotton - March (Brass Band) John Philip Sousa arr. Keith Wilkinson
Composed in 1895 during a three-week engagement of the Sousa Band at the Cotton States and International Exposition in Atlanta, King Cotton is one of John Philip Sousa's most iconic and spirited marches. At a time when cotton was central to the Southern U.S. economy, the phrase "Cotton is King" captured the cultural and economic mood of the era - an idea Sousa cleverly celebrated through this triumphant and lively composition. This brass band arrangement was specially prepared by Dr. Keith M. Wilkinson for the 2010 Summer concert series of the Brass Band of the Western Reserve. It retains all the vibrancy of Sousa's original while offering a fresh presentation for brass band audiences. This work is part of the Alum Creek Music catalogue, now exclusively distributed by BrookWright Music. Difficulty Level: 4th Section + PDF download includes parts and score.
