Valdresmarsj - Johannes Hanssen - John Philip Hannevik

Valdres is a mountain region that lies between Oslo and Bergen. Johannes Hanssen (1874-1967) composed the march for the Valdres Battalion between 1901 and 1904, using the Battalions horn-signal combined with a traditional style folk-tune.The march has been named "one of the greatest marches in the world" on many occasions, and it is a firm favourite with it's national flavor and unusual style. This version is similar to Johannes Hanssens revised version for Wind Band from 1954. However, it is interesting to notice that in Hanssens very first version of the march half a century earlier, the first theme was played by the Eb-Cornet, just like in this arrangement for brass band.

I ll Walk With God - Nicholas Brodszky and Sammy Cahn - ch

The 1954 film, The Student Prince, is based loosely on Sigmund Romberg's operetta, with I'll Walk With God by Webster & Brodszky replacing one of the dated Romberg numbers. The part of the Prince was played by Edmund Purdom who lip-synched the songs to recordings by Mario Lanza. The story is generally quite light and witty in character. However, I'll Walk With God is sung by the Prince as he accompanies his father's coffin to its final resting place. This arrangement was commissioned by David Childs, and is included on his solo CD, Hear My Prayer. It is available on the Doyen label, DOY CD166.

Walk, Don't Run - Johnny Smith - Len Jenkins

"Walk, Don't Run" is an instrumental composition written and first recorded by jazz guitarist Johnny Smith in 1954. Chet Atkins also recorded it. However, the most well-known version is by a rock band called The Ventures from Tacoma (near Seattle) who released their version of the tune as a single in spring 1960. It was an instant success. In 1964, The Ventures released an updated version called "Walk Don't Run '64," which also made the Top 10 in the US, and there were 4 further editions up until 2000. In the UK, the tune was covered by the John Barry Seven. Rolling Stone magazine rated the Ventures' version of "Walk, Don't Run" as number 82 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time.
