Serenade (Solo for Cornet/Trumpet with Piano) Charles Gounod arr. David Robb

The French composer Charles Gounod wrote 12 operas, of which the most popular has always been Faust (1859); his Romeo et Juliette (1867) also remains in the international repertory. He composed a large amount of church music, many songs and popular short pieces including his Ave Maria. This song Serenade was composed in 1857. It uses a barcarolle rhythmic style throughout to give the effect of a child's cradle being gently rocked back and forth. It is a perfect illustration of the genius of Gounod, here presented as an arrangement for cornet/trumpet and piano by David Robb.
