The Spirit of Brass For BrassFestUK 2017 - Gavin Somerset

Commissioned for BrassFestUK 2017 & recorded by the Cory Band, the Spirit of Brass is an exciting, new energetic work that will fit perfectly into any concert, particularly as an opening item. With memorable themes, the composition takes its roots from that of John Williams’ various Olympic themes that he has composed over the years. As well as this ‘main version’, there is also a youth/training band version of the work available which is more accessible to younger bands. The two versions work as standalone items, or can be performed side-by-side. A great new original piece for Brass Band.

ACCOLADE (Brass Band) - Littlemore, Phillip

Accolade, meaning an award, an honour or a laudatory notice. This fanfare for brass band literally builds from the bottom up - a battery of percussion leads to the lower band's statement of the theme before passing through the middle of the band that builds a series of interjections. The theme is then restated in the upper band before the battery of percussion returns to end. The fanfare was written for Regent Brass as the title track for their 1990 recording to celebrate both their 5th anniversary and to celebrate being crowned 3rd Section Champion Band of Great Britain in 1988 - an accolade indeed!Duration: 1:00

23 - A Lament for the Victims of Enschede - Christian Overhead

23 was composed for Brass Band Schoonhoven, and used as part of their programme for Brass in Concert in November 2016.On the 13 th May 2000, the Netherlands was shocked by an explosion in Roombeek – a district of Enschede, near the German border – after a fire broke out at a local fireworks depot. 23 people lost their lives in the tragic events. This piece pays tribute to their memory. The numbers 2 and 3 form the basis of the piece. The use of 5/4 allows the music to flow, alternating between 2 + 3 and 3 + 2; there are frequent passages where triplet quavers clash with straight quavers; and the tuned percussion make use of a scale composed of alternating intervals of 2 and 3 semitones.

Concerto for Bass Trombone - Aaron Lloydd

The Concerto is a single movement, but with partitions clearly defined by rhythm and tempo. This was one of the first works in which I really started to come to terms with the influence of rock music on my writing. My earlier works for brass were modeled on music by composers like Gilbert Vinter and Edward Gregson. But although it might not be apparent, the Concerto is inspired primarily by the music of Washington hardcore band Fugazi, and California indie darlings Pavement - groups of which I am still an enormous fan.

Don't cry for me Argentina - Andrew Lloyd Webber - Ron Sebregts

Don't Cry for me Argentina is the best-known song from the 1976 musical Evita. It was sung by Eva Peron when she was addressing the crowds amassed in the square below her balcony. More recently it was a hit for Madonna, who sang it in the 1996 film version of Evita. This arrangement for brass band retains the broad emotive melody of the original together with its intense emotion.
