In his Capriol Suite for string orchestra of 1926, musicologis and composer Philip Heseltine (writing under his pen name Peter Warlock) freely arranged dance melodies from Thoinot Arbeau's sixteenth-century Orchesographie. This beautiful andante forms the fifth movement of the suite and its original title, 'Pieds-en-L'air', takes its name from a figure of the Galliard - a popular fifthteenth-century dance form. The music has grace, charm, and a simple purity which aptly portrays Christ's Nativity.

The three-movement suite begins with the jaunty Wassail Song. The second movement is a wonderful version of Lo, how a rose e're blooming while the final movement is a bustling Pot-pourri with hints of several Christmas favourites.

This colourful title aptly combines the basis for the piece and the person it was written for. Tenth grade trumpet player Alex McCarthy would come to brass quintet rehearsals and, rather than warming up on long tones or lyrical studies, he would play excerpts from the Denis Di Blasio tune Coconut Champagne which was written for Maynard Ferguson and his band. This piece uses that melodic material as a base for this upbeat samba tune. There is a solo section for cornet and a written out solo has been provided.
